Matt Corman is a writer who also calls himself a storyteller.

Throughout his career, Corman has worked on several projects. However, there was a time when he worked for the late actor Val Kilmer. Following the latter's passing, Corman has shared some anecdotes from their professional collaborations and revealed how he was funny and witty.

For those unversed with Corman's career, he has co-created and served as a co-executive producer of Covert Affairs. The show ran for five seasons. Moreover, he also co-wrote the Daredevil: Born Again episode Optics. He was initially the co-head writer of the series but it was reworked. Ultimately, he was credited as an executive producer of the show.

During the early stages of his career, Matt Corman also worked for Val Kilmer in the 1990s. In a note published in Deadline, Corman penned a heartfelt tribute to the Top Gun actor. He began by writing,

"I’ll leave it to others to unpack Val’s impressive and diverse body of work, and the awful illness that robbed him of his distinctive voice and came to define his later years. What I want to discuss is an often-overlooked aspect of Val— just how hilarious the man could be."

Corman further revealed that he was working for Val, who needed him to sort his thoughts. The late actor had ideas about movies, and Corman went through all of his typed pages and floppy discs. It was the time when Kilmer was shooting for Heat. The actor also offered Corman to fly with him to Australia for the shoot of The Island of Dr. Moreau, as he wanted Corman to co-write a script with him.

Talking about the controversial movie, Corman revealed that everything that people heard about the film was true. However, the highlight of his trip to Australia was Kilmer's sense of humor.

Matt Corman further shared an anecdote about Kilmer's humor. He revealed how Kilmer was once mad at him as he did not lock the door on his way out one night. As Corman apologized for his mistake, the Top Gun: Maverick star started to cool down.

When Kilmer grabbed a pack of cigarettes, Corman was reminded how he accidentally sat on them the other night. When Kilmer took out a severely bent cigarette, he was not mad but acted in a rather hilarious manner.

"He started acting like a drunk trying to light his bent cigarette. His schtick was broad, but in the way, Charlie Chaplin was broad, which is to say it was brilliant. I started laughing hysterically, and when Val saw that, he really committed to the bit, taking out his zippo and “failing” to light the bent cigarette despite several attempts."

Kilmer kept making Corman laugh as he possibly felt bad for yelling at him. Matt Corman further lauded Kilmer for his craft. However, he did not forget to mention how the late actor was a genius comedian.

"Comedy is all timing, and when he needed to when he wanted to, Val could turn that gear on, speaking more quickly with a perfect punchy delivery. He was like a Formula 1 driver who refused to go above 30 MPH unless he was in a race."

Corman also mentioned how Kilmer was good at imitations.

About a year later, Matt Corman told Kilmer he wanted to quit his job, and the actor understood him. However, Kilmer kept on calling Corman and addressed himself as "your old pal Val."
