JayDaYoungan, whose real name is Javorius Tykies Scott, was shot and killed on July 27, 2022, at the young age of 24, outside his house in Bogalusa, Louisiana. His mother, Latisha Jefferson, has come forward to reveal his tragic last words more than two years later.
His mother, Jefferson, on March 3, 2025, shared all the details on Instagram Live about her son's final moments. She had tears rolling from her eyes as she remembered how her kid had managed to give her one final smile before succumbing to his injuries. Remembering the sad incident she said,
"Through all this, he smiled and said, ‘Mama,’...He kissed me on my jaw, my left cheek. He said, 'Mama, I love you, but I'm not 'gon make it.' Put yourself in my shoes."
Jefferson asserted that her son's murder was a set-up in the same video. She clearly implied that others close to him could have planned the assault, although she did not name particular individuals.
She asked,
"I feel like it was a setup. Yes, I do. I don't know what the f***, how the f***. One muthaf**** shooter. One person. How the f*** would he [JayDaYoungan] know in a matter of 15 minutes to come to my house and do all this?"
Kenyatta Scott Sr., the rapper's father, who was also hurt in the incident, reportedly stated that five shooters ambushed the scene. A suspect in the case was eventually identified by police; however, the accused committed suicide in June 2023 as police were trying to arrest him for a separate homicide.
JayDaYoungan's death and lasting legacy

JayDaYoungan's hometown, Bogalusa, grieved after the young rapper's passing, and hundreds showed up at Bogalusa High School to honor his memory. Wendy O'Quin-Perrette, the mayor of the city, denounced the violence and underlined the need for safety precautions.
she said,
"The pain that has been caused by the loss of JayDaYoungan and the injury of Kenyatta Scott Sr. is indescribable to the family and friends of these victims, and to our community as well."
No one has been formally charged in relation to JayDaYoungan's murder, despite continuous inquiries. Although no significant discoveries have been recorded, a $25,000 prize was previously given for information that resulted in an arrest.
The rapper continues to have a big impact on hip-hop. His hit songs, including 23 Island, ZaZa, Elimination, and many more, helped him become a well-known artist who has garnered millions of streams and a devoted following. After signing a deal with Atlantic Records, he released several albums, including Baby23 in 2020.
