Fans across the world are mourning the tragic death of One Direction band member Liam Payne. According to multiple reports, on Wednesday, October 6, 2024, Payne fell to his death from the window of his third-floor hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In the wake of his death, an old interview clip where Payne recounted an awkward encounter with Diddy and Jay-Z has resurfaced online.

The resurfaced clip circulating on X stemmed from the Graham Norton Interview seven years ago. Liam Payne was a guest on the show alongside Salma Hayek and comedian David Williams in 2017. During the show, Payne detailed a bizarre encounter with Diddy at a party that had him thinking, "When is this gonna end." He also recalled being shoved by Jay-Z’s bodyguard at the same party. In the video Liam Payne said:

“I went over to say hello to P. Diddy and Jay-Z were there.”

Payne, who was starstruck and intimidated by the stars' presence, said he decided to approach Diddy first following a brief internal struggle. Payne recalled:

“I went over to shake his hand. So I shook his hand and said ‘“Nice to meet you.’”

Liam Payne said Diddy responded with a sinister laugh as he shook his hand. He noted:

“It was the longest handshake ever and I sat there looking at Diddy’s eyes like when is this gonna end.”

Payne then recounted his encounter with Jay-Z. He said:

“And then the worst thing happened with Jay-Z. I leaned in to speak to him. But you can’t lean in to speak to Jay-Z. You’re not allowed to lean in.”

Payne said Jay-Z’s bodyguard shoved him and he went flying across the room. Payne added:

“Very awkward moment.”

As the audience laughed, Norton noted:

“That is very weird that people live like that.”

Liam Payne posted a snapchat before his death

According to BBC, police said they found Liam Payne dead after they responded to reports "of an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol" in the Casasur Palermo Hotel in Argentina.

According to local media outlets, Payne had sustained serious injuries after the fall. Payne, who rose to global fame as part of the beloved boyband One Direction, embarked on a successful solo career after the group’s hiatus in 2015.

Payne arrived in Argentina on September 29 and reportedly attended a concert of his former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan on October 2, 2024. BBC reported Payne was on Snapchat just hours before his death, where he said:

"It's a lovely day here in Argentina."

A video circulating on social media showed Liam Payne singing to a fan in Argentina before the incident.
