Fran Drescher, who gained fame playing Fran Fine on The Nanny, has recently shared details about her personal life. The 67-year-old actress has captured headlines after speaking openly about having a "rotation" of friends with benefits.
Drescher was married to her first husband, Peter Marc Jacobson. The story of Drescher and Jacobson dates back to high school. They were both born and raised in Queens, New York, and they first met as teenagers.
After a few years of dating, they married at 21 in 1978. The couple eventually became creative partners in the entertainment industry.
According to Mamamia, Fran Drescher and Peter Marc Jacobson later moved to California in pursuit of their dreams and began working on television projects together. Jacobson was a writer, director, and producer on The Nanny, while Drescher starred as Fran Fine. In a conversation with AOL, Jacobson reminisced about their time together during the show's creation, stating:
"Fran and I started, basically, sitting in a basement watching sitcoms to writing sitcoms, and we created The Nanny."
Their divorce was finalized in 1999, the same year The Nanny ended. The decision was partly taken due to the fact that Peter Marc Jacobson reportedly came out as gay in the late 90s.
Morte about Fran Drescher’s love life
Jacobson began therapy in the 1980s, primarily to address personal trauma related to a house robbery. But over the years, Jacobson became increasingly aware of his sexual orientation.
Initially, he thought he was bisexual but then realized that he was gay. Drescher has previously discussed how challenging the transition was for both of them. While Jacobson wanted to stay married, Drescher said she felt it was time to move on and find herself outside the marriage.
Their bond was supposedly rekindled when Drescher was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2000. Their long friendship eventually resulted in another creative production for the sitcom Happily Divorced (2011-2013).
Fran Drescher has since been candid about her personal life since marrying Jacobson. She went on to marry Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai in 2014, but that marriage ended in 2016.
During the screening of The Friend earlier this week, she voiced a preference for a different type of romance, explaining that she likes the idea of a series of “friends with benefits” over a classical relationship.
"I have a little rotation, I’m Fran Drescher. What do you think?!” she chuckled
Fran Drescher had previously talked about having an on-set “friend with benefits” during an NBC press junket back in 2020, revealing that they got together for “intimate moments” once a month. She said the arrangement was “more than enough” for her, considering how fulfilling and busy her life was.
