Eva Mendes has not returned to acting since Lost River in 2014, as she took time off to raise her children.
During an appearance on Good Morning America to promote her debut children's book Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries on September 17, host George Stephanopoulos asked Eva Mendes if she has thought about getting back into acting. She responded:
"I don't know. If there— you know— if there are interesting roles. I kind of felt like I did it, you know? I was like, I just worked with Ryan Gosling, who's like, the best. And I had such a— I don't know— it was such a high off my career to work with him and what we created together that I was like, 'This is a good time to just Seinfeld it, and just walk out.' So, who knows?"
Eva's last acting role was nearly 10 years ago, in Lost River (2014), with Ryan Gosling as the writer of the film. She shares two daughters, Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee, with Ryan Gosling.
"It was like a no-brainer"— Eva Mendes on taking a break from acting
While speaking to The Today Show in March, Eva Mendes opened up about her break from acting to focus on her children. She revealed that she felt fortunate to be able to spend time with her children while still working.
Before taking the break, Eva partnered with New York & Co in February 2013 to launch her own fashion line. She is also the creative director of CIRCA Beauty.
In 2022, during an appearance on The View, Eva Mendes said that she had set conditions around her acting roles:
“I have such a short list of what I will do. Like before kids, I kind of was up for anything — I mean, if it was a fun project."
In 2022, Eva posted screenshots of news websites headlining the news about her break from acting. While addressing the rumors, Eva said, “I never quit acting” and that she wanted to “be home with my babies.” Eva also added that her other business ventures allowed her more time to spend with her kids than acting would.
Eva also noted that she “was not excited about the stereotypical roles” being offered to her at the time after setting a standard with Lost River.
