When did Cecily Strong announce her pregnancy? SNL star celebrates birth of first child after fertility struggles

Saturday Night Live star Cecily Strong took to her Instagram page to announce that she has given birth to her daughter. In a post on April 10, Strong introduced her daughter while explaining that she gave birth to her and fiancé John MacGregor’s child on April 2.

The longest-tenured female star of sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live had announced back in November 2024 that she was expecting a child. In an Instagram post, Strong revealed that she was “happily pregnant from IVF at 40.”

In the same post, Cecily Strong shared that her fertility journey was long and arduous. While sharing her experience, Strong said,

"It’s kind of insane and scary to disclose all of this.”

Strong also reported that she had undergone an abortion as a young woman and shared details of her reproductive journey. She wrote,

“I’ve been in lots of waiting rooms with other women throughout my life. Feeling terrified and lonely all those years ago at a clinic in California, to feeling frustrated and anxious in fertility offices in New York the past couple of years, to giddily talking everyone’s ear off and wishing everyone around me good luck like I was Forrest Gump the day of my transfer.”

Stressing the importance of having caring friends, Strong shared how one of her friends has supported her throughout her journey. Strong added,

“I’ve had a friend sit with me and give me the biggest hug after my abortion at 23, only for me to sit with her and give her the biggest hug 17 years later after a difficult pregnancy loss.”

At the time, Cecily Strong had ended her post by revealing that she was pregnant with a girl. Strong wrote about expecting her daughter’s arrival,

“the little miss thing I’m really really hopeful I’ll get to meet next spring”

Cecily Strong wrote a long post on Instagram describing how her life has changed after the arrival of her daughter. Strong mentioned that she has marked the day of her daughter’s birth as the “World Changing Forever Day April 2nd.”

Alongside an image where she, her newborn daughter, and her dog are all asleep, Strong wrote,

“Me and my girls. It’s been a week and a day with my beautiful squirmy baby girl. I recognize all her little squirms and kicks from when she was on the other side of me and now I get to say ‘see what I was talking about!’”

Sharing what have been her favorite things after the birth of her daughter, Strong wrote,

“Her squeaks and sighs are my favorite noises on earth. Born with a full head of dark hair which made me scream “whoo hoo!” while pushing. And I’ve been screaming Whoo hoo every day since because she’s absolutely perfect and I won the lottery.”

Praising her fiancé, John’s talents with taking care of her and the couple’s daughter, Strong added,

“John is the best dad I could ever have imagined (he is a diapering/swaddling/bottle washing/breakfast cooking/medicine picker upper/tech support with Baby Brezza handling/dog cuddling so she never feels left out/breastfeeding and pumping helping pro and is at this moment wearing the baby and listening to classical music for babies) and best partner I could have imagined (this man hand fed me crispy rice from Blue Ribbon Sushi in the hospital).”

While Cecily Strong avoided sharing the name of her daughter publicly, she did reveal her daughter’s initials, which are “ESM.”
