As the 97th Academy Awards are just around the corner, most people are curious about the nominees. And this time, many have their eyes on Adrien Brody. So, the question is, when did Adrien Brody win an Oscar? The established actor is reportedly the only previous winner nominated for the 2025 Oscars.

Adrien Brody won his first Academy Award in 2003 at the age of just 29 for his portrayal of Holocaust survivor Wladyslaw Szpilman in Roman Polanski's biographical/war-drama film The Pianist (2002). Brody was the youngest nominee in the Best Actor category that year. He has always been an extraordinary performer throughout his career, be it in the lead or supporting roles.

The 51-year-old Adrien Brody has once again been nominated for the Best Actor in a Leading Role category for his period drama film The Brutalist, directed by Brady Corbet. Interestingly, this year, he is the only actor who has previously won an Oscar in the category mentioned above.

And if this year he manages to win again, Brody will enter the elite club of actors, which includes greats like Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, Spencer Tracy, Daniel Day-Lewis (who has won three times), Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hanks, Sean Penn, Dustin Hoffman and a few others. So, one can only imagine what it would be like to be in a group that includes all these legendary names.

Brady Corbet's The Brutalist is nominated for a bunch of categories, including Best Picture and Best Directing. The period-drama film revolves around the character of László Tóth, played by Adrien Brody, a Holocaust survivor and a visionary architect, who escapes Europe after the Second World War and moves to America to begin a new life. Later, he comes across an industrialist who sees his potential as a great architect.

The movie premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, followed by its release in the US on December 20, 2024. The Brutalist showcases an extraordinary ensemble cast and has also received critical acclaim. We'll have to wait and see if it wins the Oscars.

However, now that you know what Adrien Brody's movie is all about, let's find out the other nominees for the Best Actor in a Leading Role category besides Brody. Here's the list:

  • Ralph Fiennes for Conclave
  • Timothee Chalamet for A Complete Unknown
  • Colman Domingo for Sing Sing
  • Sebastian Stan for The Apprentice

By looking at the list, one could very well say it's going to be a tough fight. All of these actors have showcased an amazing performance in each of the films. The 97th Academy Awards is supposed to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 2, 2025. You can livestream the ceremony on Hulu and ABC.com.
