Tony Buzbee is representing over 150 of Diddy's alleged victims in the lawsuit against him, and in a new twist, he took to X on December 11 to claim that some "investigators" are approaching his clients and trying to bribe them into suing his law firm.
The move comes in the wake of Buzbee's latest case against Jay Z, as he claims that the rapper, as well as Diddy, forced themselves on a 13-year-old girl in 2000. Now a woman, she has come forward to sue them and is going by the pseudonym "Jane Doe."
Tony Buzbee is a Texas lawyer and founder of his own law firm, The Buzbee Law Firm. He's also a former Houston mayoral candidate, and per his website, he's "known for representing victims in high-stakes cases, including the prominent lawsuits against various celebrities and corporations." According to Distractify, his net worth is close to $50 million. His law firm alone rakes in about $10 billion.
Tony Buzbee accused of pressuring clients into fabricating stories; lawyer claims he doesn't need to
On December 11, after 3 a.m., Tony Buzbee took to X to issue the following:
'“Investigators” from New York have called many of our law firm’s current and former clients. What they didn’t anticipate was one of the clients decided to record the conversation. It’s shocking, and illegal."
Read the alleged transcript he penned below:
"INVESTIGATOR: “In a couple of days or maybe by next week, anyone Googling Buzbee and his company -- his practice -- are going into litigation. Okay? What we're trying to do is, we are trying put this thing together for the company that we're working for-- We could get you paid, . . . you could get money right soon, you know? We gave this kid 1,000 bucks to start yesterday just to get him on the right path. At the end of the day, this is going to go through the courts, Buzbee is getting sued . . .” These guys are on tape offering to pay clients to sue our law firm. That’s a crime.'
The twist comes a day after Jay Z and his lawyer, Alex Spiro, moved to have the case against him thrown out or they be given the name of the alleged victim. Per Deadline, the rapper also accused Tony Buzbee of coercing his clients into making false claims against Combs.
Colleague Mari Henderson wrote to Judge Analisa Torres, according to Deadline, stating that after the alleged victim "detailed her experiences to an attorney at Mr. Buzbee’s firm," he pushed for her to connect it to Combs, asking her when she met him, despite the fact that "her case was unrelated to Mr. Combs."
As reported by the outlet, the woman saw Tony Buzbee on TV and contacted him to sue her abuser for an assault Diddy was allegedly not involved in. The letter goes on:
"After not hearing from Mr. Buzbee’s firm for weeks, during which this woman tried to contact the firm multiple times, she spoke again with a member of the firm who pressed her to confirm false details regarding her experiences as a victim, including that she was drugged, held down, pushed, and physically assaulted. She felt directed and coached by Mr. Buzbee’s firm to say that someone held her down and put drugs in her mouth when that was not her experience. She felt forced to lie.”
It goes on to note that when the woman was unhappy with adapting "to the narrative Mr. Buzbee’s firm laid out and wanted only to speak her truth," she was let go as a client and was told that Buzbee and his firm would not be representing her anymore.
Per the Express Tribune, however, Tony Buzbee refuted such claims, noting:
"We don’t pressure people nor do we need to. We pursue cases we believe have merit.”
Diddy currently sits behind bars at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center as he faces charges involving racketeering and sex trafficking. His trial is slated for May 2025, and if convicted, he is looking at life behind bars.
