Arizona’s MeeMaw or The Real Thelma Johnson was a famous social media who made political statements on X. However, reports of her passing away have gone viral and netizens have been pouring in their tributes. As per Phoenix New Times, Johnson came off as a loving grandma who would not only share politically relevant posts but memes too.
If one heads over to her X account ‘TheRealThelmaJohnson’, one would find that the last post she shared was on October 19, 2024, in which she shared a picture of a news outlet’s publication regarding which she wrote,
“Your tweets are now training data for anyone who pays Leon.”
The post has received over 91.4K views at the time of writing this story. The Real Thelma Johnson had also shown support towards Democratic candidate Kamala Harris as she wrote in one of her posts that voting for Harris would be a perfect revenge for Elon Musk.
With the news of her death going viral, netizens posted their tributes with X users writing that Arizona’s MeeMaw would be terribly missed.
“We've lost a treasure. We love you Thelma Johnson. G-d speed Meemaw,” another X user wrote.
“Such sad news. We lost another great voice. Rest in glory, Thelma!” a netizen posted.
Some netizens called her their favourite while other X users extended their condolences to her family and friends.
“This is sad. @TheRealThelmaJ1 has just passed away. Thelma was one of my favorite accounts and I will miss her very dearly,” a social media user wrote.
“Thelma was a legend in our own time. Sending light and love to Thelma’s family, friends, and those of us here that she considered her friends,” an online user shared.
The Real Thelma Johnson once said Elon Musk’s X thread was full of MAGA propaganda
In an interview with Civic Engagement Beyond Voting in July 2024, The Real Thelma Johnson called Elon Musk a total ‘douch*lord.’ She said it was difficult to navigate X (formerly Twitter) because Musk’s account would constantly stream MAGA (Make America Great Again) propaganda as promulgated by Donald Trump. She added,
“You don't see any other platform owners doing this. Imagine if Mark Zuckerberg hopped on Instagram every day to push conspiracies like the Great Replacement theory. It's crazy, but it's clearly the reason he bought the platform in the first place.”
According to the interview piece, her sources for getting news were NBC12, Arizona's Family, and Phoenix New Times, among others. The Real Thelma Johnson said the democratic majority should prioritize the budget.
She believed that young people’s voices more than they did before. However, Arizona’s MeeMaw was not a Trump supporter as he hoped that the ‘MAGA cult’ would disappear.
