Last week, People reported about a $3 million tax debt for the couple Teresa Giudice and Luis “Louie” Ruelas. The Real Housewives of New Jersey star’s daughter, Gia, addressed the same report on the March 31 episode of her podcast, Casual Chaos with Gia Giudice.
The New Jersey native is a well-known face on American TV. She has appeared on 14 consecutive seasons of RHONJ since its premiere. Per Celebrity Net Worth, Teresa Giudice has an estimated net worth of $500K. She has also appeared on The Celebrity Apprentice 5, Dancing with the Stars Season 31, House of Villains Season 2, and more.
In 2009, Teresa and her then-husband, Joe Giudice, filed for bankruptcy. They withdrew the petition the following year but, in 2013, were charged with “conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud, and bank fraud.” It was alleged that Joe and Teresa Giudice hid their fortunes in their bankruptcy filing. They were convicted on the charges in 2015, and Teresa had to spend 11 months in prison.
The authorities released Joe Giudice from prison in 2019 after 41 months. Eventually, he and Teresa separated and filed for divorce the same year.
Gia addresses reports of a $3 million tax debt of mother, Teresa Giudice, and stepfather, Luis “Louie” Ruelas

The Casual Chaos host invited her longtime boyfriend, Christian Carmichael, to her new podcast. Before they started the conversation, Gia Giudice talked about the recent reports from People about the collective $3 million tax debt her mother and stepfather are facing. She started the Chaos with Christian Carmichael episode by jumping right on the topic,
“We have had a lot of positive moments this week and some negative moments. I’m sure you all have seen the news. My mom [Teresa Giudice] has been the sole provider for my sisters and I since the minute my father [Joe] left for prison.”
Gia continued to reflect upon the efforts made by her mother and asserted that everything would be sorted out.
“She has been working her a** off to make sure that my sisters and I live a stable life and that my family is financially stable. Like I can’t stress enough how much my mom has worked. Everything will be resolved."
Giudice said that her mother had “everything under control.” She also praised her stepfather, Luis Ruelas, saying,
“My stepdad, Luis, is the most amazing stepfather. He treats my sisters and I like we are his own. He is also working on getting everything resolved as well. But there’s nothing to worry about. Everything’s going to be fine... But thank you for your concern.”
Teresa and Luis started dating in June 2020 and got engaged the following year. In August 2022, E! News confirmed that the couple had tied the knot. Luis and Teresa reportedly married at the Park Chateau in East Brunswick, New Jersey.
Louie was previously married to Marisa DiMartino and shares two sons with her. He is now stepfather to Teresa Giudice’s four daughters. After their wedding, Louie’s ex-wife also remarked on the RHONJ star in a conversation with Page Six, saying that “she’s nice.” She also added,
“[She] couldn’t have been more accommodating and respectful.”
While Teresa and Luis have had a smooth journey in their relationship so far, the couple recently faced financial troubles. People reported on March 24 that the RHONJ star owes $303,889.20 in tax liens, while her husband has a debt of around $2.6 million. The outlet also reported that Ruelas owed $163,523.94 in tax liens in December last year, a case that was still open per the New Jersey court website.
