Country-rap sensation Shaboozey made headlines at the 2025 Grammy Awards, opening up about part of his experience collaborating with Beyoncé’s 13-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
The A Bar Song (Tipsy) artist, credited on two songs from Beyoncé’s new record Cowboy Carter, said that Blue Ivy's creative contribution to the project was admirable. Speaking to E! News on the red carpet he called her a “young visionary,” with a strong sense of direction. He said,
“She's giving notes, she's a young director. Young visionary. young filmmaker. I can see it 'cause I direct, too.”
Blue Ivy had an active role in the production of Cowboy Carter, said Shaboozey. The 29-year-old artist shared that Beyoncé invited him and a few other artists to observe and collaborate on the project, with her daughter taking complete control behind the scenes. Shaboozey stated that she wasn’t just a bystander, she was part of the creative conversation.
Calling her “commanding” and “focused,” he said Blue Ivy was hands-on at every aspect of the process, making sure that everything fit the artistic vision. He remarked in the same interview with E! News:
"She's making shoot ideas and making scene changes. It was so cool to see them being creative."
His remarks are part of a growing acknowledgment of Blue Ivy’s artistic skills. Throughout the years she has contributed to different parts of her mother’s music career, appearing in music videos and providing spoken-word sections.
Shaboozey talks about his journey to success
Shaboozey’s stage name supposedly came from a high school football coach mispronouncing his surname, Chibueze which in Igbo means “God is king.”
The Nigerian rapper said his cultural upbringing played a huge role in shaping his artistry. He had originally wanted to be a novelist but turned to music instead, releasing his debut album, Lady Wrangler in 2018.
While discussing his experience working on the production with Blue Ivy and Beyoncé, Shaboozey also looked back on his own career in the music world. The singer-rapper, born Collins Obinna Chibueze. He has earned massive fame from the song A Bar Song (Tipsy).
The song became a breakout hit in 2024, soaring to record-breaking heights on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts.
He has named classic country titans like Johnny Cash and Marty Robbins as major influences, admiring the genre’s storytelling aspect. He previously told People how he saw similar threads between country and hip-hop. He said,
“Johnny Cash was something that resonated with me very early on... Marty Robbins too. I loved Marty Robbins. His voice was just so sweet and distinct."
His ability to combine these two different genres resulted in him becoming one of the most exciting new artists on the scene and earned him several Grammy nominations in 2025, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year.
