Serena Williams recently replied to everyone who called her “petty” for dancing during the Super Bowl halftime show and seemingly targeting Drizzy. The tennis legend pointed out her achievements and proclaimed that she was definitely “not dancing to be petty.”

Williams, who has been regarded as one of the best-ever athletes, has an estimated net worth of over $340 million, as of May 28, 2024, according to Forbes. It’s worth noting that Serena Williams reportedly earned about $95 million last year as a player. The majority of her earnings in 2022 came from her winnings and brand endorsements.

While being an active tennis player, Serena Williams was earning around $40 million a year, per Celebrity Net Worth. Throughout a 27-year-long career as a pro, Williams won 23 singles Grand Slams and 14 women’s doubles titles (with her sister Venus), along with four Olympic Gold medals – three in doubles and one in singles.

After becoming one of the most decorated tennis pros in terms of singles grand slams, Serena Williams turned to the role of a businesswoman post-retirement. Her VC Fund, Serena Ventures, and her cosmetic company, Wyn Beauty, contribute a big chunk to her net worth, while the athlete still has some brand endorsements under her belt.

In 2024, Forbes placed Serena Williams at the 97th spot, tied with Indra Nooyi and Daphne Koller, on the list of America’s Self-Made Women. However, Williams is not all about exploring new business ventures and making money. She is married to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and the couple share two daughters.

Serena Williams made it to the headlines by making an appearance during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show

Super Bowl LIX halftime show was one for the history books, as it broke Michael Jackson’s long-standing viewership record by garnering 133.5 million views in the US. The halftime show also marked a collaboration between Serena Williams and Kendrick Lamar, as the former made a guest appearance during the latter’s performance.

K.Dot was performing his five-time Grammy-winning Drake diss track, Not Like Us, when the camera panned toward a dancing Serena. The former tennis icon later shared a few words about the collaboration, revealing how Lamar’s team reached out to her and mentioned her “crip walk at the Olympics.” Williams penned,

“When @kendricklamar and team called and was like ‘we’ve been trying to do something forever, what about this? We loved your crip walk at the Olympics after you won the gold medal.’”

Serena further added,

“I’m like Super Bowl? Are you serious? When in the world would I ever be able to dance at a superbowl? (Never) let’s do it! I knew my winning dance after the @olympics would pay off one day. End of story.”

After her appearance, many called Serena “petty” for collaborating with Lamar to target the 6 God singer. She once reportedly dated Drizzy, and many speculated that her performance was a shot at the Canadian rapper.

On February 16, 2025, Williams used her X to address the “petty” comments while replying to her husband Alexis Ohanian’s post. She posted,

“That there my baby daddy and husband. Always got my back. I Love you 🥰 Gosh I’m so late to the game (I’ve been sick) & busy investing in billion dollar companies and running @WYNbeauty… def not dancing to be petty lol. I think I proved 23 times over (not counting 4 gold medals) that I simply don’t have time for petty. All love and respect always nothing negative here. 🤗”

The original post from Ohanian highlighted how Serena Williams’ crip walk at Super Bowl halftime was monumental. His post talked about how Serena was lambasted 13 years ago for doing something similar at the Olympics.
