Matt Gaetz's former classmate, Reacher star Alan Ritchson, is speaking out on the former's behavior in school.
Speaking with GQ for an interview, the star said the two of them are "adversaries,"
“It’s shocking to me that the panhandle of Florida continues to vote for somebody — knowing everything we know about him and the promises that he’s made behind closed doors about pardoning certain criminals — he’s just not a good dude!”
Matt Gaetz grew up near Fort Walton Beach, and he graduated from Niceville High School. He then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary sciences from Florida State University in 2003, after which, he enrolled at the William & Mary Law School in 2007. He eventually graduated with a Juris Doctor.
Alan Ritchson says he will never get into politics because he isn't "duplicitous enough": Read more
In the same interview, Alan Ritchson also revealed there was always a part of him that would have liked to get into politics, but he had his reasons for holding back. He also touted Bernie Sanders as an example, claiming he had virtually no accomplishments to his name:
“There’s part of me that wants to get into politics to outdo somebody like him for good, and there’s part of me that’s like, I’m not duplicitous enough to succeed in politics. There are certain people that do a good job of staying true to who they are, but they’re ineffective. I think Bernie Sanders is a hero. But it’s like, what has he accomplished?”
Following President Trump's re-election, Gaetz was slated to become his incoming Attorney General. The latter resigned from his post in anticipation, however, the choice was met with intense criticism, culminating in the Florida Congressman being put under investigation by the House Ethics Committee. He subsequently removed himself from consideration for the nomination a week later.
As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, allegations of s*x trafficking and statutory rape were levied against Gaetz back in 2020, but following an investigation carried out by the US Department of Justice, he was left uncharged.
However, the investigation carried out by the House Ethics Committee found him guilty of paying women, including an underage girl to have s*x with him. It was also found that he abused illicit substances during his tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives.
As for Alan Ritchson, he has been involved in several projects since he made his debut as Jack Reacher, including three seasons of Reacher, Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Ordinary Angels, Playdate, War Machine, and The Man With the Bag.
Reacher showrunner, writer, and executive producer Nick Santora praised his leading man in an interview with GQ:
“He will put in the long hours to learn every single line, to work on fight sequences, and so on. You don’t know an actor’s work ethic until you are in the soup with them and, fortunately, we all get to work with someone who likes to work really hard too.”
Alan Ritchson also revealed that he plans on staying with the Reacher team for as long as possible, jokingly exclaiming that he wants "season 10 to be the best season we’ve ever had.”
