Internet sensation Hawk Tuah Girl, whose real name is Haliey Welch, faced financial trouble after she launched her cryptocurrency $HAWK earlier in December 2024. According to Rolling Stone, cryptocurrency like hers is known as meme-coins and they vary based on how they are traded online.
When $HAWK crypto was launched, its value increased immediately but collapsed shortly. Recently, Canadian-Moroccan YouTuber Pokimane also shared her thoughts about the incident.
During the December 28, 2024, episode of her Sweet n Sour Podcast with LilyPichu, she asked whether Pichu knew the context behind Hawk Tuah and the person, Haliey Welch.
After LilyPichu responded, Pokimane said it was probably because she knew nothing about Hawk Tuah. While talking about Welch, she said:
“She went on to obviously have a bunch of social media accounts, start a podcast etc. etc. etc. However, she also went on to launch a memecoin. Oh boy, and I can’t hate on her too much she probably also didn’t know what she was getting into.”
She continued:
“There were probably many many older men who seemed responsible and excited about a project and wanted to do something cool with her and she obviously put a lot of trust in them and it turns out, probably kind of a scam.”
According to reports, the ones who invested in the cryptocurrency filed a lawsuit against the crypto developers based out of the Cayman Islands. During a discussion with Welch and her team, YouTube crypto investigator Coffeezilla criticized Haliey Welch’s meme-coin launch, calling it one of the worst he had seen.
Pokimane highlighted Haliey Welch’s latest tweet during the podcast
Pokimane said after Haliey Welch launched $HAWK crypto, it went ‘south’ referring to how the cryptocurrency’s value collapsed in no time. She added that many people lost their money and alleged Welch disappeared from X (formerly Twitter) for two weeks. She also said she saw a recent X post where someone claimed Welch might have committed a mishap and the post gained 90K likes.
She initially thought it was a joke, but then the person who shared the post replied, saying someone saw an ambulance outside Haliey Welch’s house. However, the Hawk Tuah girl took to her X on December 20, 2024, writing that she took the situation seriously and cooperated with the legal team in the best way possible. Her X post mentioned:
“I am fully cooperating with and am committed to assisting the legal team representing the individuals impacted, as well as to help uncover the truth, hold the responsible parties accountable, and resolve this matter.”
Haliey Welch shared a link asking those who lost their investments in the incident to contact Burwick Law. Pokimane responded to her post, saying it was a semi-apology as she did not take full responsibility despite being responsible to some extent.
She said this was why content creators should not start any sort of crypto coin as they don’t turn out successful, making people lose money. She also added people must be cautious before investing money in financial affairs related to social media influencers.
