Underground rapper Papoose and boxing heavyweight champion Claressa Shields have been in the media spotlight ever since the news about their relationship became public. Remy Ma, Papoose’s estranged wife, had shared the news about her estranged husband’s new relationship in an online post in 2024.
There is a considerable age difference between Shields and Papoose. Papoose is 47, and Shields recently celebrated her 30th birthday.
Claressa Shield’s birthday party theme revealed her fascination for the 90s. The themed party, images of which were shared on Instagram on March 22, was attended by Shield’s friends, and the MMA fighter’s partner, Papoose, was also seen alongside her.
Talking about her fascination for the 90s in a social media post, Claressa Shields said,
“I Should’ve Been Born A Little Sooner!”
Continuing to reveal her fascination for the music and style of the 90s, Shields admitted to being a huge fan of Aaliyah Dana Haughton, the American singer and actress credited with redefining the music and style sensibilities of 90s pop culture. Sharing her fascination for Aaliyah in her Instagram post, Shields shared,
“I Loved Being Able to Remake Her Look & Live in The 90s For Just For A Few Hours”
Shield’s partner, Papoose also took to Instagram to pen a sweet note for her birthday. He wrote,
“Special Happy born day to my champion @claressashields A great person who’s always smiling/happy. Until you piss her off. Love you baby!!”

Claressa Shields was born on March 17, 1995, in Flint, Michigan. Shields’ social media posts perhaps reveal that she feels she missed out on consciously appreciating the rich music and culture of the 90s era.
Claressa Shield’s new love interest, Papoose, on the other hand, was very active in the music scene of the 90s. Papoose made his debut in 1998, when he recorded a track for Kool G Rap’s album Roots of Evil, as per XXL Mag.
Papoose, who was born in 1978 in Brooklyn, was deeply influenced by the underground music scene of the 90s. Papoose himself was a prolific artist who released multiple underground mixtapes all through the early 2000s before gaining recognition from a reputed music label later on, according to Allmusic.
Papoose and Claressa Shields' relationship explored

After 8 years, in 2016, the couple got married in a formal ceremony, according to People Magazine. Their marriage ceremony was widely covered by the media and also featured in Love and Hip: New York, a reality television series that documented the lives of hip-hop artists on the East Coast. People Magazine also reported that the couple welcomed their first child in 2018.
In December 2024, Remy Ma shared a series of message conversations between her husband and Claressa Shields on social media, accusing Papoose of infidelity and breaking their 15-year-long marriage.
In the accusations and counter-accusations that followed on social media, it became apparent that there was a lot of conflict in Remy Ma and Papoose’s 15-year-long marriage. Papoose alleged that Remy Ma had been disloyal to him before, and he had asked for a divorce multiple times.
