Instagram influencer Olivia Davis, who dated Megan Thee Stallion's rumored boyfriend, basketball star Torrey Craig, is coming under fire for allegations of racism. Earlier this week, Davis sat down for an interview on the podcast Girls 1 Kitchen, where she questioned the NBA player's type in women while mispronouncing Meg's name.
Olivia Davis, who is white, said during the podcast:
"Where do I start? Do I start with the one where my ex is dating the Magan Thee Stallion? Mag Thee Stallion? What’s her name? [...] I can’t even get mad, though ‘cause it’s like, damn, that’s kind of a flex. I can’t even be mad at that all.”
Speaking to a TMZ reporter, though, Olivia Davis has since apologized for her remark and, asked if she feels like her comments were being misinterpreted, she said:
"I feel like I've never been called a racist in my entire life, so it's just like a little bit of a shock to me."
Olivia Davis brushes her comments off as nothing but a "dumb blonde moment," says she has troubles with vowels
During the podcast, Olivia Davis also reflected on what her former boyfriend's type might be, as they were weighing in on the rumors that he might have been cheating on Megan Thee Stallion for the entirety of their relationship. At one point, Davis claimed Torrey Craig typically goes for white women.
In the wake of mounting backlash, when probed about what she has to say to the accusations of racism, she told TMZ:
"Honestly, I've been kinda staying silent right now, just because of the disaster that's happening. I just feel it's a little insensitive for people to be attacking, I obviously understand they're offended and I deeply apologize for that. I know her name, obviously."
She went on, brushing off her comments as nothing but a mistake:
"It was just a stupid dumb blonde moment, I think, during the podcast. I actually do have an issue with pronouncing vowels sometimes, and I'm not gonna play the victim and use this as an excuse... I do speak proper English, but I do have a tendency to mix up vowels, especially if I'm nervous."
Davis then went on to explain that she was very nervous during the podcast, citing "personal things" she was going through, alluding to these being the reason she mispronounced Megan's name.
She referred to her "butchering" Meg's name as an "innocent mistake," noting that she had no intention of being disrespectful to the rapper. Davis also affirmed that she is a fan of Megan Thee Stallion, and that she listens to her songs.
Earlier this month, a woman took to Instagram to upload screenshots of her alleged conversations with Torrey Craig, accusing him of leading her on and cheating on Megan. She claimed to be unaware that he was taken, and almost all of the screenshots were explicit in nature. The NBA player later took to Instagram to clear the air, accusing the woman of wanting "clout."
