Kyren Lacy, a Louisiana State University football player, passed away recently following a police pursuit on Saturday, April 12. The former LSU athlete’s attorney, Matthew Ory, confirmed his death to ESPN in a statement that reads:

“It is with profound sorrow that we confirm the tragic passing of Kyren Lacy. First and foremost, we ask that the public and the media give his family the space and time they need to grieve this unimaginable loss in peace.”

Lacy was involved in an accident in December last year. The traffic collision resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall. After the accident, Kyren fled the scene and later turned himself in to the authorities. Per Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office records (via ESPN), he was facing the charges of “negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run with death, and reckless operation of a vehicle."

As per the Louisiana State Legislature's website, negligent homicide is classified as the “killing of a human being by criminal negligence.”

According to the LA-based Stephen G. Rodriguez & Partners, an accused acts with criminal negligence when they act "in a reckless way" which creates a "high risk of death or great bodily injury."

Kyren Lacy was out on a bail bond of $151,000, while ESPN reported that a grand jury hearing was scheduled to begin on Monday, April 14.

Authorities suspect suicide as the cause of Kyren Lacy’s death

The National Football League prospect, who was out on bail after being involved in a fatal hit-and-run, passed away on Saturday. Based on a female family member's report, Harris County authorities revealed that Lacy had a falling out with someone. After the verbal spat, Kyren reportedly discharged a weapon into the ground and escaped in his vehicle.

The police chased the football player until his vehicle crashed into a tree. After the first responders approached Kyren Lacy’s car, he was found dead with a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound. The promising college athlete’s father, Kenny, also penned a heartfelt post after his son’s death and highlighted the issues related to mental health.

Kenny Lacy wrote in a Facebook post,

“Young parents, start talking to your kids at a very early age and make sure they are confident and comfortable confiding in you. Don't be cool with "I'm Alright,or I'm good" when you know deep down something isn't right. Mental Health is real, and for the most part, it's invisible, don't ignore the signs, even if they may seem small.”

Kenny wrote about the death of his son, Kyren Lacy, reflecting on how his and his family’s life has been changed forever and “will never be ok.” He added,

“But God needed my baby more than he was needed here. This has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through. This will never get easier, but we'll learn to live with it.”

He concluded by asking other parents to check on their children. LSU also issued a statement after Kyren Lacy’s death, mourning the loss and sending "thoughts and prayers" to his family and close ones.

Kyren Lacy’s attorney, Matthew Ory, believed his client’s charges would’ve been declined based on the evidence they collected and reviewed. The lawyer also mentioned “demanding a full and transparent review” of the accident investigation involving his client in his statement.
