Malaysia Pargo, 44, came into the limelight after appearing on VH1's Basketball Wives LA in 2011. She featured in several episodes of the reality TV show from its debut to the tenth season.
Her real name was revealed in a 2015 episode of Basketball Wives. Per a Celebrity Net Worth report, her original name is Laquisha Pargo. However, she chose to court recognition as Malaysia.
Recently, Malaysia Pargo announced the unfortunate demise of her mother. Mourning the loss, she wrote a heartfelt note of tribute.
Sharing glimpses with her mother, Malaysia wrote:
"My Mommy earned her angel wings. She was my earthly angel, my original supporter, my best friend, my homegirl and the one person I could always count on to love me unconditionally. I watched her go through both the good and bad times in our lives, but I promise, I only saw the good because her life journey made me a stronger and more resilient person."
In her homage, Malaysia recalled how her mommy asked her to look after her siblings when she was only 12, and she would keep that promise. She continued:
"I love you, Mommy. You can rest easy knowing that I will continue to make you proud. At the age of 12, you told me to always look after my siblings, and I will keep that promise. I’m going to miss our daily calls. I try to remind myself not to be selfish — you’re in a better place now, free from pain. Maybe Dontae needed his mom! We all know how fiercely you loved your kids. Rest well, Mommy."
Here's what we know about Malaysia Pargo
From her dynamic life to her personality, Pargo emerged as a well-known face following the release of Basketball Wives, showcasing women associated with professional basketball players.
In one of the episodes, Malaysia Pargo disclosed the reason behind going with her middle name, Malaysia, instead of Laquisha. A Distractify report pointed out the former Basketball Wives LA star's conversation with Jackie Christie, where she didn't like how Christie brought up the topic of her name. She clearly stated:
"Malaysia and Laquisha is the same person. I like to go by my middle name. You can call me Laquisha, and that just is what it is. I do not give a flying f**k."
Malaysia Pargo filed for divorce in 2014
Malaysia Pargo married former NBA player Jannero Pargo in 2006. They welcomed three kids — two sons and a daughter.
The oldest son, Jannero Jr., was born in 2006, according to Distractify, and Malaysia gave birth to twins Jayla and Jayden in 2011. After eight years of marriage, she filed for divorce in 2014.
In a 2020 Couples Court TV episode, Malaysia Pargo expressed she and her ex-husband should have taken couples counselling before calling it quits.
She said:
"One of the things that I wish I would’ve done is step back and go to counseling between the both of us because right now to the day we still very much love each other."
Their divorce was finalized the same year and Malaysia received substantial support. According to an Essence report, Jannero had to provide 50% of his NBA pension, $15,380 monthly for child support, half of his savings plans of 401K, a monthly spousal support of $7,500, a privileged access to Three Beats LLC jewelry collection, a swanky 2015 Mercedes Benz G550, and the right to have authorized control over three banking assets.
Neither Malaysia Pargo nor Jannero Pargo shared the reasons behind their divorce publicly. They have been co-parenting their three children.
