Le’Andria Johnson, the Grammy award-winning gospel singer with beautiful vocals and an inspiring testimony, has recently made headlines for the wrong reasons.
Many reports state that the singer was seen drinking in downtown Greenville, South Carolina. Johnson was later arrested for public intoxication and possessing an open alcohol container in public.
The officers responded to a disturbance outside BrickTop's restaurant, the Greenville Police Department stated. Witnesses said Johnson was yelling at other diners before leaving the restaurant and then walking west on West Washington Street, according to WYFF.
She exhibited several signs of impairment, including slurred speech, the smell of alcohol, and an inability to keep her balance, stated the police reports.
Greenville News reported that the officers arrested the 41-year-old singer based on her actions and complaints they received from the witnesses. She was also booked and released on a $257.50 bond, though no court date is listed.
The singer publicly marked her nine months of sobriety in 2019. Johnson had previously credited God, her family, and her fans, who, according to Johnson, played a big role in helping her fight against the addiction, as stated by EEW magazine. However, she soon continued having trouble on that front again.

Le’Andria Johnson bravely discussed her struggles with addiction on Iyanla's Fix My Life show, revealing that she would drink heavily every day. stating that the habit almost cost her her career and ministry.
In an interview with Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell, Johnson said that her journey to recovery started with her mentor Donald Lawrence. Later she was advised by her record label to attend Iyanla’s Fix My Life show. Johnson, who was initially hesitant, credits Iyanla Vanzant’s coaching, which forced her to face the realities.
In the same interview, Le’Andria Johnson stated that she was in a 30-day rehabilitation program that enabled her to see the triggers of her addiction. She stated,
"And it’s amazing because it’s not only dealing with my drug of choice, it’s dealing with other triggers I’m aware of. It was very needed. And a lot of people in our community, unfortunately, don’t seek getting help a lot. It allowed me to see my condition from a different perspective and everybody else’s condition from a different perspective as well."
The singer acknowledged the anger she previously had towards the church and the gospel industry. Although she still has some criticisms, she wants to express her views more productively these days, she remarked.
Johnson stated that she has now found the benefits of sobriety and is enjoying better relationships with her kids and family.
While Johnson hasn't publicly addressed the recent arrest, her fans and followers remain hopeful for her betterment.
