Kim Kardashian is slated to testify against the suspects in the 2016 heist that saw her get tied up and robbed.

The reality television star, 44, will appear in a court in Paris in May, though on Monday afternoon, a month-long trial involving 10 people nicknamed the “grandpa robbers” by French media will commence. They face allegations of stealing jewelry worth millions of euros from Kim Kardashian, who was in town attending the Paris Fashion Week at the time.

The Guardian has placed the suspects' ages from 35 to 78 and has referred to the heist as "perhaps the biggest robbery of an individual in France in 20 years." It saw Kardashian tied up and held hostage at gunpoint in her room, with the armed robbers sporting police uniforms. The incident took place early on October 3, 2026. They fled with an estimated €10m in jewelry.

Reflecting on the incident during her interview with David Letterman in 2020, Kim Kardashian said on his Netflix show:

“This is the time I’m going to get raped. I’m like: ‘What is happening? Are we gonna die? Just tell them I have children. I have babies, I have a husband, I have a family.’”

Kim Kardashian's harrowing armed robbery encounter explored as trial kicks off next week:

The Independent has reported that Yunice Abbas is one of the suspects and that he intends to be held accountable for his role in the robbery. He will reportedly apologize for his actions when the trial kicks off.

Abbas, 71, who infamously conceded to participating in the heist, told the Associated Press:

“I will apologise. I mean it sincerely.”

Per the outlet, Kim Kardashian reflected on the harrowing encounter in the past:

“They wrapped duct tape over my eyes and my mouth,” she said. “It was the scariest thing I’ve ever been through in my entire life, just thinking that, you know, you’re about to die. You’re just kind of bracing yourself for the moment that they’re going to shoot you and kill you. That 10 minutes really changed my whole life.”

Abbas conceded to acting as the lookout in the reception area located on the ground floor as he facilitated an easy escape. He claimed he was unarmed and did not personally threaten the mom-of-four, but took accountability for the crime.

Kim Kardashian’s lawyers told ABC News in a statement:

“Ms. Kardashian is reserving her testimony for the court and jury and does not wish to elaborate further at this time,” they said. “She has great respect and admiration for the French justice system and has been treated with great respect by the French authorities. She wishes the trial to proceed in an orderly fashion, in accordance with French law and with respect for all parties to the case."

Per the outlet, 12 people, all of whom were said to have met in a bar in Paris and planned the heist, were supposed to be put on trial. However, one of them has since died, while another is too sick to be tried. Investigations have found that five of the defendants were present at the scene of the crime in October 2016.

The French press refers to them as the Granddad Robbers because many of the defendants are elderly with criminal records involving bank robbery.

At the time, Kim Kardashian told investigators that she was forced into the bathroom next to her bedroom and shoved into the bathtub. Her assailants made their escape either on bicycles or on foot, and she eventually broke free by removing the tape from her hands and mouth.

The billionaire celebrity influencer and business owner then ran to her stylist’s room, where she called her sister, Kourtney Kardashian, to inform her of what happened. She filed a complaint shortly after, informing investigators that she was unharmed and wanted to depart France as quickly as possible to be with her children.

The Guardian has reported that the ten defendants now face charges involving armed robbery, membership of a criminal gang, and kidnapping. Eight of these men are maintaining their innocence.
