US Senator Bernie Sanders’ comment about the podcast host Joe Rogan has gone viral on social media. The senator, who has always had a traditionally progressive stance on healthcare, recently turned to X to praise the podcaster’s remarks about the state of the US healthcare system.
On a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience of March 21, Rogan spoke about the healthcare system with guest Chris Williamson. In the segment, Rogan stated that healthcare should be 100 percent socially funded.
"I think that Medicare and Medicaid, having programs where people who are hurt can get an operation and it's not going to bankrupt them for the rest of their life, is another thing that I think society should be a part of our agreement to take care of each other as a community," he remarked.
The video clip was posted on X by Sanders himself, who has long defended Medicare for All, to his 14.9 million followers, saying, "Joe Rogan is absolutely right about this." The post went viral, attracting more than 724,000 views, 11,000 likes, and over 540 comments.
In response, many users agreed with the stance, but according to Newsweek, there were few who were more skeptical, with some people expressing doubt about the possibility of a system like that.
Rogan, who offers controversial views on a variety of political issues, has previously identified himself as neither party, saying he assesses issues on a case-by-case basis.
More about Joe Rogan's criticism of healthcare and health insurance companies
In a recent episode, Joe Rogan took another jab at the American healthcare system and many insurance companies. In one of the interviews conducted with comedian Duncan Trussell, Rogan argued that the industry favors making money over actually helping patients.
"It’s not really about making you better. Making you better is what they sell, but it’s about making more money." Rogan said.
According to Yahoo Finance, the discussion also exposed the ridiculous amounts of paperwork that physicians are burdened with that only serve to raise the costs.
The UFC host and podcaster has previously supported Senator Bernie Sanders’ take on healthcare. He even invited Sanders for a podcast episode in 2019. Joe Rogan announced his endorsement of the senator in early 2020, just before Bernie Sanders dropped out of the race in April.
"I think I'll probably vote for Bernie. Him as a human being, when I was hanging out with him, I believe in him, I like him, I like him a lot... He's been insanely consistent his entire life." Rogan remarked in one of his podcast episodes.
