Besides his professional career, West's love affair with his wife Prunella Scales is often referred to as theater's most heartfelt romance since Romeo and Juliet. Moreover, Timothy West became Prunella's carer during her fight against dementia. They were together for 61 years until West's death in 2024. However, the beginning of their relationship was not usual.
West was first married to Jaqueline Boyer between 1956 and 1961. West was an undergraduate who was driven away by Boyer's emotional nature. He thought he needed to protect her and married her at 21 in 1956. They also had a daughter whom they named Juliet.

Timothy and Boyer's marriage was seemingly not working as West claimed he and his first wife did not have much in common. Moreover, he revealed how Boyer's mood swings became more severe, and he "never knew what I was coming home to."
At that time, Timothy West and Prunella Scales had begun having an affair. While they were hiding it from everyone, Prunella felt guilty of being called a "homewrecker."
Things soon took a turn in their favor when Jacqueline admitted to having an affair. As West's first marriage effectively ended, he offered to take the blame for their divorce. Prunella and Timothy then shaped a plan for their affair to come out to the public.
West and Scales then tied the knot in 1963. They had two sons, Samuel and Joseph.
How did Timothy West die?
Timothy West's children confirmed his passing at 90 via a statement. The statement read,
"After a long and extraordinary life on and off the stage, our darling father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. He was 90 years old."
They continued:
"Tim was with friends and family at the end. He leaves his wife Prunella Scales, to whom he was married for 61 years, a sister, a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. All of us will miss him terribly," the statement added.
