Shawn Wayans was recently honored at the 56th NAACP Image Awards. NAACP inducted the Wayans family into the Hall of Fame on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

Shawn and his family are known for working on Scary Movie, Little Man, The Wayans Bros., and many more. It has been years since Wayans appeared in a project. Excluding a one-episode voice role in Animals. (2016), Shawn last played a significant role in 2009’s Dance Flick, another Wayans family project that he co-wrote and produced.

Shawn Wayans seemingly stepped away from showbiz in 2009. The actor shifted his focus to an alternate career path as a DJ in the 2010s. His real-life career is supposedly inspired by his role as DJ SW-1 from In Living Color Season 1. For the past few years, Wayans has focused on stand-up comedy and has done tours across multiple US cities.

Per Celebrity Net Worth, Shawn Wayans has an estimated net worth of $30 million as of September 2024. On the personal front, Shawn is a father of three children – two daughters and a son. He shares his three kids with her former partner, Ursula Alberto, a fitness trainer.

Shawn’s older daughter, Laila, is a drummer for Been Stellar, a New York City-based band. Laila Wayans, born in 1999, is two years older than her sister Ilia. Marlon, their younger brother, was born in 2004.

Shawn occasionally posts his kids’ pictures online. He also posts about the other Wayans family members. Born in 1971, Shawn is the second-youngest of the 10 Wayans siblings. He is a year older than Marlon Wayans, who was born in 1972.


Shawn Wayans’ return to show business and Scary Movie reboot

Apart from Animals. (2016), Shawn Wayans has distanced himself from show business since 2009. He made a return as a writer and was credited for working on at least one episode of Poppa's House. The CBS show is co-created by Wayans’ elder brother Damon Sr, who also stars in the show along with his son Damon Jr.

At the peak of his acting career, Shawn co-wrote and starred in Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2 with his brother Marlon Wayans. Both films were directed by their brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans. The Wayans family members were not involved in the making of the later projects in the horror spoof film series.

In April 2024, a Scary Movie reboot was announced at Paramount’s CinemaCon. In October 2024, Deadline reported that the siblings are returning for the sixth Scary Movie. Shawn Wayans also posted about the reboot through his Instagram account,

“WE’RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise! We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.”

In January 2025, multiple outlets reported that the Scary Movie reboot will come out on June 12, 2026.

Scary Movie reboot is not the only project Shawn is working on with his brothers. The Wayans brothers are seemingly returning for a White Chicks sequel, as Marlon hinted during an appearance on Good Morning America. The youngest Wayans sibling suggested that the sequel to 2004’s controversial comedy film will happen after Scary Movie 6.
