The Smiths singer Morrissey performed at the Fair Park Music Hall in Dallas on November 2, 2024. However, as he was performing First of the Gang to Die, a fan jumped onstage to approach him. This was followed by more people who jumped onto the stage to shake hands with the singer and to hug him.
As the situation grew increasingly chaotic, fans from both sides of the stage rushed forward to approach Morrissey. By then, he was surrounded by three security guards and three fans, all reaching for him.
As seen from videos circulating online, one of the security personnel hurt his foot during the process and one of the stage crew ran over to assist an injured individual, escorting them safely backstage. Eventually, the singer had to be escorted out of the stage.
According to Manchester Evening News, George Allen, co-host of the Morrissey and Wine podcast, noted that stage invasions frequently occurred at the singer’s shows, though this one appeared especially chaotic.
It remained unclear whether he chose to leave the stage himself or was advised by the crew, but fans seemed to take things too far.
Allen added that while a handshake or hug was typically acceptable, the situation crossed a line, especially given that a crew member was injured. Some fans even described the incident as disrespectful.
The singer gained attention for his signature quiff and clever, often sardonic lyrics during the band's years in alternative rock. Between 1982 and 1987, The Smiths released four studio albums.
Morrissey’s North American tour started on October 31, 2024
Morrissey's North American tour began on Halloween, just two days before the Dallas concert, and will continue with a performance in Little Rock, Arkansas, on October 4, 2024. The tour will travel through the East and Midwest, concluding on November 23, 2024, with a concert in Waukegan, Illinois.
He is set to perform at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark on November 13, 2024, at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City on November 15, 2024, and at the Kodak Center in Rochester, NY, on November 16, 2024.
His two rumored albums, Bonfire of Teenagers and Without Music The World Dies, have yet to be released.
Recently, Morrissey contributed £50,000 to the Salford Lads Club. Laura Slingsby, the club’s head of youth operations, expressed gratitude for his generous support, viewing it not only as a financial gift but also as a meaningful recognition of the club's impact on young people and its cultural significance in Salford.
Embracing a persona that rejected typical rock masculinity, Morrissey crafted the image of a socially detached, sexually ambiguous outsider who embraced celibacy, expressed in songs like What Difference Does It Make?, Girlfriend in a Coma, and I Started Something I Couldn't Finish.
After leaving The Smiths amid tension, the singer pursued a solo career, releasing 13 solo albums.
This year, Johnny Marr, another former member of The Smiths, is also touring. He performed across the US alongside co-headliner James in September and October 2024.
