Influencer Lindsay Dewey and her family recently went through an unimaginable loss. Dewey and her husband, Eric Dewey, lost their 22-month-old son, Reed, after a large mirror in their home fell on him. More than a month after Reed's untimely passing, Dewey opened up about the incident via social media to raise awareness about such accidents.

Lindsay Dewey took to her Instagram handle and added stories explaining the entire incident. She added all her stories to a highlight titled "Awareness." In the stories, she narrated what took away her son's life.

Sharing the heartbreaking details, she revealed that Reed was playing with a silicon bowl with a suction bottom. As the bowl was stuck on a mirror sitting on the ground leaning against the wall, he probably was pulling it back and forth. As a result, the mirror fell on her son.

"To make a long story short, apparently Reed had one of his suction cup bowls and stuck it on the mirror and was pulling it 'back and forth' to pry it off (we're assuming) and he pulled the mirror down on himself."

She continued,

"I never even heard him playing by/ with the mirror. Until I heard it fall and then within 5 seconds I lifted it off of him."

Lindsay further mentioned that the mirror was heavy-duty and could not be hung on the wall. The influencer further mentioned that she lifted the mirror immediately and found Reed "lying there, eyes open but not crying." While she was relieved, she soon realized something had gone wrong and found out that the mirror fractured Reed's skull, "causing a severe TBI (traumatic brain injury)."

For their son's medical care, Lindsay Dewey and her husband raised a GoFundMe fundraiser. However, their son did not survive and passed away.

About a month after the incident, as Dewey shared the details of the incident, she received a lot of love from her fellow mothers. While many are wearing sweatshirts with "Reed" written on them, others are ensuring the mirrors and other heavy-duty furniture in their homes are mounted into the wall.

Lindsay Dewey's GoFundMe fundraiser sees a surge in donations

Following Reed's passing, Lindsay Dewey and her husband continued their fundraiser on GoFundMe in order to pay all the medical bills and also help their family cope with the loss. They also announced that they would be donating Reed's organs. A note on their fundraiser page read,

"Reed went to be with the Lord. He will help change the lives of so many others by becoming a donor. Donations will continue to go to Lindsay and Eric for medical bills, associated expenses, and to help with other children at home while they navigate this."

Out of their $100,000 target, the family has so far raised $68,439 from 942 donations. Along with the donations, many also extended their verbal support to Lindsay Dewey.

"From one mother to another, I’m so immensely sorry! There is no one stronger in this life than a parent who has lost a child and still breathes. May God wrap his arms around you all in the coming days and bring your soul some peace," wrote one donor.

The donor also called Reed a hero and added that he would never be forgotten. Another one urged others to reach out and support the Dewey family.
