Alec Baldwin's ex-wife, Kim Basinger, has good things to say about his current wife, Hilaria Baldwin.

Speaking with Variety for an interview on February 27, 2026, Basinger reflected on her relationship with her former husband. The two tied the knot in 2002, but nine years later decided to part ways. They share a daughter, Ireland, who is 29.

An ABC News article from 2001 reveals that, according to the Oscar-winning actress's father Don Basinger, Alec Baldwin's temper caused the demise of their marriage. He accused Baldwin of getting verbally abusive with Basinger in front of their then-5-year-old daughter.

According to ABC News, Don Basinger told People magazine at the time that Alec Baldwin could never get over anger issues.

"I love Alec," Don tells the mag. "He's the most kind and generous man I've ever known in my life, and he's overcome some very difficult things. All but one: his anger."

In the official filing, Kim Basinger listed "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their split. The two then launched a years-long custody battle over their daughter, but during a 2022 interview, she told The Edit that Alec and her were now "cool," adding that

Kim Basinger told Variety that she and Alec currently have "a great relationship." The 71-year-old also revealed that she and her former husband don't meet very often but were on talking terms:

“I have great respect for where he is today, and his family. You know, we don’t spend Christmases and holidays or see each other very much. But we talk. He’ll pick up the phone and call me, and we have a very genuinely cordial and I think loving relationship in a lot of ways, just because we share a daughter, and I don’t wish him anything but everything good.”

As for what she feels about his new wife, she said, referencing his trial for involuntary manslaughter after an accident on the set of Rust claimed a life:

"He’s been through a lot lately. But Hilaria seems to have a great handle on that. So more power to her.”

Alec married Hilaria, a yoga instructor, in 2012. Over the years, the two have welcomed seven children: Carmen, 11, Rafael, 9, Leonardo, 8, Romeo, 6, Eduardo, 4, María, who was born via surrogacy and is also 4 years old, and Ilaria, 2.
