Actor George Clooney and former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly are in the middle of a public feud after Clooney seemed to challenge Kelly's journalism credentials.

Speaking to Patti LuPone in a sit down for Variety’s Actors on Actors: Broadway, George Clooney opened up about the backlash he’s faced for his political activism throughout the years.

When talking about his role as the iconic journalist Edward R. Murrow in the current Broadway play Good Night, and Good Luck, he mentioned Kelly’s critique.

"You see Megyn Kelly, who’s come out and said I’m not a journalist. I didn’t say I was a journalist... I’ve at least been to Darfur and Sudan and the Congo and been shot at to try to get stories out. I’m not quite sure what she’s done to be a journalist." The actor said.

The comments triggered an immediate response from Megyn Kelly, who devoted the first 11 minutes of the April 23 episode of The Megyn Kelly Show podcast to deny George Clooney’s statements.

Kelly alleged that Clooney was a hypocrite who had also remained silent about President Joe Biden’s health but then waited weeks to speak out in the New York Times, in which he urged Biden to resign. Kelly stated that this act disqualified Clooney from pretending to have any journalistic integrity.

"Finally he decides to write an op-ed in The New York Times saying Joe Biden is not up for the job. That's not journalism, George — it's cowardice and naked partisanship. You're not fooling anyone. " She remarked.

Megyn Kelly also took a shot at Clooney’s jump to Broadway, suggesting the acting roles in Hollywood for him were drying up, she said:

"By the way, what’s the matter, George? Are the Hollywood roles getting a little hard to come by as you age and get decidedly more smug and self congratulatory? I’m just asking!"

A look into Megyn Kelly’s early career and rise to fame

Megyn Kelly, who grew up in Syracuse and Delmar, New York, was the youngest of three children. According to Britannica, Her father died in 1985, and her mother had to work as a nurse to feed the family.

Kelly earned a BA in Political Science from Syracuse University in 1992, and she attended Albany Law School. While there, she edited the law review and served on the student senate.

After graduating from law school in 1995, she practiced corporate law at firms including Bickel & Brewer and Jones Day, where she handled high-profile clients like Experian. Although she had a good career in law, Kelly lost interest in working long hours and moved on to the media.

She signed up for a reporting class, interned at NBC’s Chicago affiliate. In 2003, she moved to Baltimore, doing a mix of legal work and reporting at WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C.

Megyn Kelly had her big break in 2004 when she was hired by Fox News. She started as a legal analyst and general reporter, and gained notice with her coverage of the Duke lacrosse case. By 2007, she was co hosting America’s Newsroom and eventually hosted her own show, America Live. She even got her own show named after her, The Kelly File, which premiered in 2013.
