Television host Conan O’Brien seems intrigued by actor Adrien Brody’s 2025 Oscar acceptance speech. On March 17, 2025, The Academy announced the return of Conan O'Brien as the host for the 2026 Oscar Awards. Sharing the news on social media, the honorary organization wrote:
“Forget the pot of gold—this St. Patrick’s Day, we’re giving you something even better. @ConanOBrien is officially returning to host the 98th Oscars!”
After the news came out, Conan O'Brien shared his reaction. In a press release by The Academy, he said:
“The only reason I’m hosting the Oscars next year is that I want to hear Adrien Brody finish his speech.”
Brody received the 2025 Oscar in the Best Actor category for his role in the 2024 historical drama The Brutalist. According to The Independent, Adrien Brody took more than the allotted 40 seconds—approximately five minutes and forty seconds—to finish his speech, making it the longest acceptance speech in Oscar history.
As per the press release, Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan will serve as executive producers of the award show. Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney will also return as producers, with Sweeney taking on additional duties as a writer. The 2026 Oscars will premiere on March 15 next year. Officials Bill Kramer and Janet Yang stated:
“We are thrilled to bring back Conan, Raj, Katy, Jeff and Mike for the 98th Oscars! This year, they produced a hugely entertaining and visually stunning show that celebrated our nominees and the global film community in the most beautiful and impactful way.
They continued:
“Conan was the perfect host, skillfully guiding us through the evening with humor, warmth and reverence. It is an honor to be working with them again.”
Conan O’Brien reflected on the sacrality of the Oscar Award ceremony
During the March 13, 2025, episode of the Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend podcast, O’Brien discussed the rules surrounding the award and its sacrality. He noted that the statue is considered a “religious icon,” saying:
“The image of Oscar is very important to them and there would be times where we would be shooting bits to promote the Oscars.”
Mike Sweeney, who also joined the conversation, corrected him, saying it was “promos.”
Conan O'Brien shared a memory from the Oscars, describing a fun segment he filmed with a giant Oscar statue.
The concept revolved around him and the statue as roommates in a failing relationship, arguing over typical household issues. The final version, which was released, featured him bickering with the statue while it remained motionless.
At one point, he suggested placing the Oscar on a large couch to enhance the humor, imagining a scene where he complains about it not helping with chores. However, the idea was rejected when a representative from The Academy said:
“Then one of the people from The Academy came forward and said, ‘Oscar can never be horizontal.’ Athe thigh bone of St. Peter, this is a religious icon.”
Mike Sweeney mentioned that they attempted to put an apron on the Oscar statue during a scene where it was serving leftovers, but they were told the statue had to remain unclothed, as it is always depicted that way.
