Sacramento Kings forward DeMar DeRozan is currently in the middle of an investigation after an alleged physical altercation at a sushi restaurant in Calabasas, California.

The incident reportedly unfolded late Friday night, garnering attention from law enforcement and creating viral headlines after footage circulated online. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the alleged confrontation took place about 11:26 p.m. at Yume Sushi Bar.

Deputies said they are actively investigating the situation, but no further details have been released at this time. Video obtained by TMZ shows an apparent back and forth between DeMar DeRozan and an unidentified man inside the establishment. A woman can be heard shouting “Let him go” as tensions rise.

According to witnesses, the altercation started when a fan walked up to DeRozan and shined the flashlight in his face. This reportedly led to DeRozan knocking the phone down.

DeRozan then told the man to step back and walk away, witnesses say. The fan, in return, asked for his phone back, but this only fuelled the dispute. The video shows the man on the ground, seemingly trying to get his phone as DeRozan continues to confront him. Eventually a woman in a sweatsuit pulls the two apart.

The clip doesn't show the entire incident, but according to Basket News, subsequent reports said that the altercation caused competition and even property damage inside the restaurant.

So far, there haven't been any announcements regarding arrests or official charges, and it hasn’t been clarified whether DeMar DeRozan could be facing any sort of criminal action alongside the other party involved. The Sacramento Kings have not commented on the situation yet.

A look into DeMar DeRozan's early career and rise to fame

A Compton, California native, DeRozan displayed his athleticism and scoring ability at Compton High School, where he played on the varsity team all four years.

According to Lines, He averaged better than 29 points a game in his senior season and was named an All-American, competing at the top high school showcases like the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic.

As a five star recruit, DeRozan chose to go to the University of Southern California to remain close to home. He performed really well in his sole season with the USC Trojans, starting all 35 games for the team and leading them to a Pac-10 Conference Championship. He was named MVP of the Pac-10 Tournament and declared for the NBA Draft after one year.

DeMar DeRozan was drafted ninth overall by the Toronto Raptors in 2009. In his fifth season, he had become a steady offensive player and made his first All-Star team in 2014.

He signed a $139 million deal with the Toronto Raptors in 2016, which is considered as his first major signings. DeRozan is now a prominent player and plays for the Sacramento Kings.
