Darius Jackson quote-tweeted a video of Usher serenading his then-girlfriend Keke Palmer at his Las Vegas show in 2023. Jackson criticized her sheer bodycon dress with subtle polka dots saying,
"It's the outfit tho...you a mom."
He also added,
"We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn't want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is. This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe. I rest my case."
A year after the incident, Keke Palmer released her memoir; Master of Me in November 2024 where she mentioned Darius Jackson's comments about her dress. In an interview with Buzzfeed, published on November 19, the actress was asked if she had any hesitations including the incident, to which she responded by saying, that she "gotta talk about it." Palmer while talking about the incident also mentioned that she was just "like every other mama going out for a night."
"I wanted to be clear that I have boundaries, guys, and also keep it real. For me, entertaining is my love. It is my passion, but it's my job. I wanted to be clear: I'll address this in this regard because it's out there, and I wanted to use it for something you can apply. If I'm going to share tea it's going to be tea that you can sip in good faith, not just to get into it. It's gotta be used for good."

While speaking to PEOPLE in October, Keke Palmer opened up about life in the 30s, breaking up with her then-boyfriend, Darius Jackson, custody battles, and more.
In her memoir, Master of Me, she described the breakup as the "hardest thing I ever had to go through."

The relationship had allegedly also turned violent since Keke requested a temporary restraining order against Darius, which was granted in November 2023. In her request, she mentioned multiple allegations of domestic violence, including an incident when Jackson broke into her home and attempted to strangle her, the incident was caught on video.
Palmer mentioned, amidst the custody battle of their son, Leo, the breakup got "so out of control" and the only way for her to bring order "was through the court."
