Tory Lanez is pushing back on the claims that he is harassing and stalking Megan Thee Stallion from behind bars as she petitioned to be granted a restraining order this December 17, 2024. As per People Magazine, Lanez has rubbished Megan's claims as "ridiculous." His response was filed on Tuesday, December 24, the outlet has learned, at the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County.
According to the media outlet, Tory Lanez's complaint invokes California Code of Civil Procedure S. 527.8. This section "prohibits courts from issuing restraining orders that restrict constitutionally protected speech. The statute ensures restraining order." Per Find Law, this means that:
"A preliminary injunction may be granted at any time before judgment upon a verified complaint, or upon affidavits if the complaint in the one case, or the affidavits in the other, show satisfactorily that sufficient grounds exist therefore. No preliminary injunction shall be granted without notice to the opposing party."
Here's everything we know about Tory Lanez's rebuttal
As reported by People Magazine, Tory Lanez, legal name Daystar Peterson, claims Megan Thee Stallion, real name Megan Pete, "improperly decided to use the Los Angeles County civil court to file a frivolous request for civil harassment restraining order against Daystar Peterson, who has had zero direct contact with Ms. Pete." :
"When celebrity with millions of dollars and backed by large corporation disagrees with free speech or opinions, they weaponize the justice system, failing to understand that they are public figures, who voluntarily catapulted themselves into the limelight, unable to deal with the controversy and public opinions," the documents read in part.
The Lady of Namek hitmaker's complaint goes on:
"Rather than rebut the commentary or debate the issues raised by Defendant’s comments so people can make up their own minds, Plaintiff has succumbed to the current trend of using the legal system in an attempt to cancel those opinions she disagrees with."
This Friday, December 27, however, Megan's legal counsel, Mari Henderson, stated to the outlet:
"It is delusional that a felon convicted of a violent crime for shooting a victim, and then further harassing her, is even contesting a request for a protective order and we are confident the court will act to protect the victim."
Earlier this month, the songstress filed for a restraining order against Lanez, who is serving a 10-year stint in prison, because he is harassing and stalking her via the use of proxies. Per BBC, Tory Lanez allegedly continues to subject her to "repeated trauma and re-victimisation."
Tory Lanez was convicted of three felonies following a trial last year. He shot at Megan Thee Stallion's feet as she was leaving a party on July 12, 2020, while demanding that she "dance." Nonetheless, Lanez maintains his innocence.
