Rapper and actor Busta Rhymes has been accused of reportedly assaulting his assistant, Dashiel Gables, in Brooklyn on January 10, 2025. The incident happened after the two allegedly engaged in an altercation about the assistant constantly being on his phone.

Following the incident, he faced three charges of assault on January 14, 2025, and as per the latest reports, the actor has turned himself in. He now has to appear in court on February 2, 2025.

According to an exclusive report by the New York Post, Rhymes bashed his assistant continuously, which left a swelling on his left eye. The incident reportedly happened inside J Condominium in Dumbo.

Busta Rhymes allegedly left the scene after assaulting Gables, who called 911. After officials arrived, he was taken to the nearest hospital. The singer is now facing three charges: third-degree misdemeanor assault, attempted assault, and harassment.

He has been issued a desk appearance ticket, requiring him to appear in court and address these allegations. When the media outlet tried to contact Gables for a statement, he didn’t respond as his legal representatives advised him against. Gables said:

“Maybe later. Maybe in the future. I can’t mess up my case, bro. It’s just not going to be worth it. An article in the paper as opposed to a six or seven-million-dollar settlement? I’m not risking it, sorry.”

What happened with Busta Rhymes in 2015?

This is not the first time that Busta Rhymes has been charged with assault. In 2015, a similar incident happened when he allegedly threw a protein drink bottle at a Manhattan gym employee. The incident reportedly followed an argument the day before when Rhymes was denied permission to film at the gym.

He was arrested after the incident, and police charged him with assault. However, he was later released from Manhattan Criminal Court.

Similar incidents have happened previously. According to a report by The Guardian, in 2008, Busta Rhymes received three years' probation after pleading guilty to assault and drink-driving. Busta Rhymes was also fined and sentenced to community service. However, he expressed respect for the court's decision.

The legal issues included an alleged assault during a pay argument, a fan altercation, driving on a suspended license, and a drink-driving arrest where he reportedly admitted consuming alcohol before driving.

In other news, the rapper has released a six-track EP titled Dragon Season... The Awakening, featuring Lauryn Hill's son, YG Marley. This EP serves as a precursor to the upcoming Dragon Season album, set for release on March 28, 2025.

According to a report by Hotnewniphop, the project blends boom-bap, gospel, reggae, and soul influences with Busta Rhymes' signature fiery and gritty style. The reception has reportedly been positive.

Earlier this month, he also delivered an impressive performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, featuring two tracks from Dragon Season... The Awakening and a fan-favorite hit.
