In the latest development, David Beckham's former assistant is once again claiming that the former Manchester United player had a four-month-long affair with her.
Former Dutch model and personal assistant to the soccer player, Rebecca Loos, first made these allegations twenty years ago. Now, in an exclusive new interview with 60 Minutes Australia, she is reaffirming her past claims, stating:
"I have stuck to the truth. I've never exaggerated. I never lied about a single thing."
Loos, who worked for Beckham in 2003, claimed that the pair had an affair while he was married to Victoria Beckham. As per People magazine, Beckham has previously denied the allegations and called them "ludicrous" in a statement to a publication.
More details from the interview, as Rebecca Loos speaks up about alleged affair with David Beckham
According to The Guardian, Rebecca Loos was hired by SFX, which happened to be David Beckham's management company at the time. Loos worked for the soccer superstar in 2003 and first spoke about the affair after she was fired from her role. In an interview with News of the World, Loos had first revealed the details of the alleged affair.
Now, more than two decades later, during her interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Rebecca recounts that moment, saying that although she knew she was up against some of the most powerful people in the world, she felt the need to come forward and speak her truth.
"In my opinion, it was a very brave thing to do to go up against them.
She further continues:
"Why? Because I'm going up against the strongest, most powerful couple in the media who have all the money in the world for the best PR, the best lawyers. And all I had on my side was the truth."
Back in 2004, David Beckham denied the allegations. In an interview with The Guardian, he said:
"During the past few months I have become accustomed to reading more and more ludicrous stories about my private life. What appeared this morning is just one further example."
He added:
"The simple truth is that I am very happily married and have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change this."
In her recent interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Rebecca Loos claims that the affair happened at a hotel while the "Out of Your Mind" singer was out of town. She also adds that due to the nature of her work, she was the first person the couple saw every day. She says:
"[I was the] first person they see in the morning and the last person they see in the evening."
In the interview, she further adds that the media coverage portrayed both her and Victoria in a bad light. The overwhelming negativity affected her deeply, but she tried to be brave in the face of the chaos.
"I think all of that impacted my mental health in a way that it was quite traumatic but I didn't admit to it being traumatic because I wanted to be brave and strong. But some of it seeped through and got to me and that has taken time to recover from."
Rebecca Loos, who had until now led a quiet life over the past twenty years, is married to Even Christjar Skaiaa and works as a yoga instructor. The couple, who married in 2012, share two sons.
In a 2013 interview with Daybreak, Loos spoke about regretting the way she chose to reveal the news of the alleged affair.
"I think I maybe could have gone about it in a kinder way. I don’t regret speaking out but I regret the way I went about it.”
She continues:
"Obviously I'm a mother now and I'm married myself and being in the media for six or seven years, so knowing what I know now, I would have definitely gone about things quite differently."
In her latest interview with 60 Minutes Australia, released on 30 March, Rebecca Loos said she realized the mistake she made after an incident at a party.
"I fell hook, line and sinker for every single cliche line he fed me. And then two weeks later we were at Ronaldo's birthday party and he's off with this beautiful model. And I was like, 'Uh.' That was a hard night for me. I was like, 'Uh, I don't understand.' And realizations started to hit that I'd been massively played."
David Beckham, who was already a father to two of his and Victoria's children at the time, has yet to comment on the latest claims made by Rebecca Loos.
