Robert Pattinson's Mickey 17 is all set to hit theaters this March, and ahead of release, the film has just gotten a brand new poster featuring distorted versions of Pattinson's character Mickey in a classic art style, showcasing one smiley Mickey's face inside another, to reveal a sullen Mickey.
Directed by Bong Joon-Ho, who previously worked on multiple highly acclaimed cult-favorite horror films and has made a name for himself in the genre, this one is a sci-fi adventure. Adapted from Edward Ashton's dystopian science fiction novel, Mickey7, the film will explore a reusable clone who is set to dangerous tasks that are fatal. The catch is that he is revived after each death, making the premise all the more exciting as we follow multiple versions of Mickey.
Starring Pattinson as Mickey, the film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun, and Naomie Ackie. The first look from the film showed Mickey 17 and 18 facing Mark Ruffalo as the latter's memory gets erased. With the film's stunning visuals already setting the tone, thanks to Joon-Ho's signature style of filmmaking, Mickey 17 is already looking at favorable outcomes.
More details on Mickey 17
This is the first time Robert Pattinson is returning on-screen after the success of The Batman. It is also a unique genre for the actor, who has only done one sci-fi film before this.
Production for Mickey 17 ended in 2023 but was delayed to reach the audience because of disputes between the houses and the Hollywood strikes. Pattinson's busy schedule also delayed the release date as the actor has been working on the sequel for The Batman. The film has been rated R for "violent content, language throughout, s*xual content, and drug material" which tells fans that we're in for some serious action.
With a runtime of 137 minutes, the film will follow two versions of Mickey as they become expendables.
The official plot synopsis for the film reads,
The unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… to die, for a living.
Considering this is Joon-Ho's first project with Pattinson, the director has expressed his excitement over working with the actor, and how he was the perfect fit got Mickey, as he told ScreenRant,
"The role [of Mickey] demanded duality, shifting between the pitiful and slightly stupid Mickey 17 to the manic yet charismatic Mickey 18, so I had Pattinson in mind from the start. The casting process was relatively easy too, as it seems he wanted to play an oddball character like this.”
Mickey 17 is set to release on March 7, 2025.
