Joe Russo, who is one of the directors of The Electric State, along with his brother Anthony Russo, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, revealed that the duo does not have any plans to do a sequel, but they want to expand the universe in other forms. This includes a mobile game and a potential television show on the same characters. He said,

"We love immersive worlds, so we always try to build worlds that have the capability for future storytelling, because that's what we like. There is a game currently that's being released with the movie, and we're in discussions around a potential show idea that could work for it, but no sequel conversations as of yet."

Since its release, the film has received mostly mixed to negative reviews; it holds a 15% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is the lowest in the Russo brothers' career. If a television show actually gets the green light, it can potentially answer several cliffhangers left in the film.

The film is written by Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus and is made on a whopping budget of $320 million. In an interview with Collider, the Russos revealed that The Electric State was five years in the making. Joe also said that they had to make the Avengers films (especially the last two), which allowed them to make this one, thanks to the motion capture technology employed in these projects.

"I think it took us making Infinity War and Endgame and working with Thanos and the Black Order to understand, really, how to advance motion capture performance to that next level, and a lot of motion capture performance was used on the robots."

The Electric State is now streaming on Netflix.
