All we know about the next James Bond film is that the creators are calling it Bond 26. There is no update on its cast or storyline.
Recently, the long-running and acclaimed franchise was mentioned during an interview Joe and Anthony Russo gave to The Hollywood Reporter, where they explained why it isn’t in their future.
When asked if directing a James Bond movie is something they would consider now that Amazon is in control, Joe Russo said:
"We’re focused on the next two Avengers movies. But we love Bond. We love working with Amazon. We’ve got a number of projects at AGBO that we’re developing for us to direct right after the Avengers films."
As of now, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are undoubtedly a top priority for them, with Robert Downey Jr. returning to the game—this time as Doctor Doom. They recently told Entertainment Weekly that the actor is too dialed in for his upcoming villainous role.
Is there anything confirmed about the next James Bond?
The 25th film in the franchise, No Time to Die (2021), where we last saw Daniel Craig as the titular Agent 007, temporarily gave us his replacement, Nomi (Lashana Lynch). This was the first time a female character was assigned the 007 designation. Craig’s character was blown up on an island, marking the end of his era.
Now, there are nothing but speculations about the next film.
As for the casting, Tom Hardy, Regé-Jean Page, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and more are among the top choices to play Bond.
Michael Fassbender has also been a top choice for Agent 007 for years, and in a recent interview, he confirmed that he had auditioned for the role before.
While appearing on Happy Sad Confused, the actor said:
"I met with [former producer] Barbara Broccoli, just, you know, through passing and I actually went in for an audition phase before Daniel [Craig] was cast, but I don’t think I was ever in the mix."
Regarding the character, Bond producer Michael G. Wilson explained at a ‘In Conversation’ event that younger actors wouldn’t fit the role. James Bond is already a veteran, so the actors mentioned in this story are more suitable for the role.
Additionally, Barbara Broccoli told Variety before No Time to Die was released that the character will always be male, so we shouldn’t expect Lashana Lynch or any other actress to be cast as Agent 007.
