SNL member Ego Nwodim was stunned when the studio audience yelled an obscenity on national television during the Saturday Night Live program that aired on April 5, 2025. While engaging in crowd work, the audience shouted out an explicit word, which got censored, to which she replied, “We finna get fined for that!”
The incident happened on NBC's well-liked Weekend Update program and quickly became the highlight of that evening.
Ego Nwodim said that they should let her host it this year, to which Colin replied,
"That would be great but they said they don't want a comedian"
To which she replied,
"Yeah, that's because every year, a comedian gets up there and starts talking trash about the White House, about the media but no one's ever just made fun of the dinner."
Ego Nwodim then started introducing herself as Ms. Eggy, a flashy stand-up comedian vying for the position of host of the White House Correspondents' Dinner. She made a bunch of jokes about the dinner food and then grumbled about her children and husband, who are made up.
Ms. Eggy, well known for her over-the-top personality and sharp delivery, put on a show full of sass and crowdwork. She included the audience by asking a bunch of questions and holding the microphone towards them for a response.
Ego Nwodim then asked a question,
“'Cause these men ain't what?”
and the audience replied,
“Sh*t!”
Colin Jost and Michael Che lost it when the audience collectively answered. Nwodim was visibly stunned. Then, without missing a beat, she leaned into the chaos by saying,
“We finna get fined for that!”
Correcting them that she was hoping for
“Worth a damn, sucka.”
as she chuckled. Ego Nwodim added,
“Y’all gonna pay for that! Lorne gonna be mad at y’all!”
She then started concluding her segment by saying,
"In conclusion, thank you, White House, for having a b*tch."
to which Colin Jost replied,
"That's your ending? Oh, my God!"
To which she replied,
"Yes, Colin"
and then ended by doing the very same thing she started, by asking the audience and holding the microphone,
"Cause Miss Eggy don't what?"
to which Colin and the audience shouted,
"Play."
Neither the East Coast broadcast nor NBC's streaming service, Peacock, edited the scene. However, the vulgarity was eventually removed from official replays and clips.
Even though the incident happened after 10 p.m., inside the FCC's "safe harbor" hours, NBC can be fined based on network policy or viewer complaints. NBC has not yet released a statement to the public.
Other highlights of the evening other than Ego Nwodim's incident
Ego Nwodim's incident was the most talked-about thing about the episode, but the episode also included other highlights. On April 6, 2025, Jack Black made his fourth appearance as host of Saturday Night Live, promoting The Minecraft Movie with his trademark high-energy comedy. He charged into the crowd with the audience with a marching band and cast members Kenan Thompson, Heidi Gardner, and Marcello Hernández as he launched a musical spoof of Aerosmith's "Back in the Saddle."
Black had custom-made sketches for his comedic style, which involved sketches like a dating show where he was dressed as Indiana Jones, a WWII-era photo joke with Heidi Gardner, and a love song about first-time s*x, including Sarah Sherman, Bowen Yang, and Brandi Carlile.
Black was dressed in full gothic fashion, singing about a vacationing youngster in a reggae-themed song transformed into a goth-themed parody of My Chemical Romance's "The Black Parade." Then he played a sketch where he was watching the first ever Greek play and also a fake commercial for "Flamin' Hot Preparation H.”
The episode also included a segment of Mike Myers as Elon Musk, where he displayed a self-destructive Tesla, while James Austin Johnson, as Donald Trump, made fun of the stock market fall and introduced MAGDA (Make America Great Depression Again).
The musical guests, Brandi Carlile and Elton John, performed "Who Believes in Angels?" and "Little Richard's Bible," respectively.
Before the goodnight, a tribute card was presented for Van Kilmer, who passed away recently.
Kilmer had hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live in 2000.
