Leonardo DiCaprio is all geared up to make his big-screen return this September as Warner Bros. releases an intense official trailer for the upcoming thriller film One Battle After Another. The movie will reportedly be a loose adaptation of the 1990 novel Vineland by Thomas Pynchon, with Paul Thomas Anderson at the helm of the project.

The latest trailer starts on a tense yet humorous note, portraying DiCaprio's character, Bob Ferguson, an ex-revolutionary. As it unfolds, we see him rushing through a grocery store before the sequence shifts to a payphone by the street. The two-and-a-half-minute clip culminates as action and drama take center stage. A synopsis of One Battle After Another, per IMDb, reads:

"When their evil enemy resurfaces after 16 years, a group of ex-revolutionaries reunites to rescue one of their own's daughter."

The official trailer of One Battle After Another makes it evident that DiCaprio's character, Bob, is on the move and desperate to find his daughter. We also witness a pregnant woman holding a gun and firing with full force. Bob's identity is eventually revealed in the trailer as DiCaprio delivers the line:

"This is Bob Ferguson. I was part of the French '75."

Tension builds as we see armed forces breaking into an apartment. On the other hand, code words seem to no longer work so well for Bob, who has long retired from his crew. Shortly after, an old lady appears on the screen and tells Bob he is "not suitable" for her daughter.

The baby, which was also mentioned in the teaser that aired last week, seems to be a pivotal point of the story. However, how exactly the plot unravels is still being kept under wraps.

"Freedom means having no fear," as said by one of the characters in the clip, and the movie will reportedly portray how the revolutionaries come together to fight for a common cause—one of their own's life is at stake. Guns blaze, and people are on the run as armed forces unite to suppress the anarchy.

Leonardo DiCaprio's performance as the lead character in One Battle After Another will undeniably reach the peak of art once again as he delivers an iconic line, revealing his present situation:

"Steve Lockjaw just attacked my home, and I cannot remember, for the life of my only child, the answer to your question. I need to find my daughter."

Moreover, Academy Award-winning actor Sean Penn will portray Col. Steven J. Lockjaw alongside co-stars Regina Hall and Benicio del Toro. The cast of One Battle After Another also includes:

  • Alana Haim
  • Teyana Taylor (portrays the pregnant woman as seen in the trailers)
  • Wood Harris
  • D.W. Moffett (in the role of Bill Desmond)
  • Chase Infiniti
  • Shayna McHayle

One Battle After Another will hit US theatres on September 26, 2025.
