Whoopi Goldberg is considered a prominent and iconic comedian worldwide. The 69-year-old celebrity is renowned for hosting The View majestically. According to several reports, she turned down a request to host Saturday Night Live.

With the recent Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special celebrated on February 16, a video of Goldberg's conversation is making rounds on social media platforms. In a candid conversation with The Hollywood Reporter on the SNL 50 Red Carpet, she expressed her views and elaborated on the reason behind declining to host SNL.

Responding to the question of turning down the chance of hosting SNL, she described that she did not have enough time to commit to the show completely. In addition, she wanted to work on her own.

"It required a week. It requires that you sit with people and write sketches and I didn't have really the time and I didn't want to do that," she shared.

Goldberg further explained,

"I have been doing that for years and so I just wanted to work on my own."

Whoopi Goldberg never hosted SNL but appeared on the program multiple times.

The EGOT winner's reason behind not hosting the classic American show is known to all. In the past, she has featured in multiple episodes of the show. However, she corrected the reporter, stating she had been on SNL once. She remembered that special moment and shared she appeared on SNL because of Justin Bieber.

Whoopi Goldberg fondly told the reporter,

"Justin Bieber asked me to intro him and that's how I got there."

Though she specified about appearing on the NBC program only once, the internet picturizes another aspect of her being on the show more than once. Long back in 1986, she was seen in the Translator sketch.

In 2010, Kenan Thompson impersonated a humorous role of Whoopi Goldberg talking about being the spokeswoman for Poise Pads.

In 2013, Goldberg criticized SNL and commented about the show having a diversity problem. For many years, not having enough black women in the cast has been an ongoing debate and talk of the town. During that time, Jay Pharoah and Kenan Thompson were the only two black members of the SNL cast. They portrayed the roles of black women as well.

According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, a spokesperson stated that Whoopi was never asked to join the show as a host. Tom Leonardis, the president of Goldberg’s production company Whoop Inc., shared this major statement at the afterparty of Whoopi Goldberg Presents Moms Mabley, as per a Showbiz411 report.
