Tom Holland might be a household name globally with this role as Spiderman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, but the British star could not buy his own product at Target in the U.S. The actor who catapulted to instant fame after starring in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017, was refused service when he visited a Target in the United States to buy his non-alcoholic beer, Bero.
The now-sober 28-year-old documented his journey to locate and buy his product on Instagram stories. However, buying Bero, which was launched by the actor in October 2024, turned out to be a difficult task for Tom Holland. Holland was asked to give his identification at the register, but since he had an English I.D., the employees were not able to accept it as proof of his age. Holland said on Instagram stories:
“They wouldn’t accept my id because its English and I couldn’t prove my age.”
Tom Holland was ultimately able to buy Bero, and was seen carrying a case of it as he left the store. An employee came to Holland’s aid. The actor described the situation:
“So a really lovely employee I guess, scanned their ID”
The situation amused Holland as he observed:
“It’s kind of ironic that I wasn’t allowed to buy my own product.”
Despite the trouble, Holland maintained his excitement and happiness at seeing his product in stores in the U.S.
Tom Holland’s hilarious journey to find his product
Tom Holland succeeded in his mission to find Bero in Target, but he was sent on a wild goose chase around multiple stores of the chain. Holland initially explained to followers that he has not visited the U.S. “for a while,” and communicated how excited he was to discover Bero at Target. Before knowing that his ID would be required, Holland, who was seen walking in an underground parking lot, said:
“I’m gonna go visit some Bero, on the shelves, out in the wild! I’ll show you in a sec.”
Holland immediately got back to his Instagram stories with an update, telling fans that he could not find the product at the first Target he visited. Giving the situation a cheeky spin, Holland said:
“Not the best marketing.”
Looking around, he muttered:
“I’ll go this way”
The next update saw Holland walking around in a Target, disappointed that the second store he visited also did not carry Bero. Holland was still in high spirits as he chimed:
“The hunt continues.”

Holland was more optimistic about finding Bero at the third store he visited, as it was a “bigger Target.” Holland recorded himself looking for Bero between the shelves and navigating his way around the store in a very relatable way. He sheepishly shared how he’d almost missed the shelves where the product was kept. As he showed fans the product display, Holland’s excitement was palpable.
We all know what happened next, but we are happy to note that Tom Holland’s mission of finding Bero in Target succeeded.
Tom Holland’s sobriety
The Teen Choice Awards’ Choice Summer Movie Actor of 2017 and 2019 spoke about his struggles with alcohol addiction in a conversation with life coach Jay Shetty on the latter’s On Purpose Podcast. Tom Holland shared that his decision to stop drinking alcohol wasn’t instant. He said:
“I didn't one day wake up and say I'm giving up drinking.”

According to Holland, he decided to give up drinking in January 2022 for a month, but pushed himself as his dependence on alcohol scared him. He said:
“I decided that I would wait until my birthday, which is June 1st. I said to myself if I can do six months without alcohol then I can prove to myself that I don't have a problem and by the time I had got to June 1st, I was the happiest I'd ever been in my life.”
The actor explained to Food&Wine that his sobriety had an impact on the creation of his premium non-alcoholic beer, Bero. Holland explained:
“I felt really passionate about being sober, promoting a healthier lifestyle, making a difference and helping people. My first year of sobriety would have been much easier had I had a product like Bero.”
In launching Bero, Tom Holland emphasized the emotional importance of beer in social situations, as well as its role in creating bonds in a family. The actor hopes that with the success of Bero, people feel comfortable “sharing a draft pint” with a non-alcoholic product.
