The Boston-based Celtic punk group Dropkick Murphys became the focus of controversy after it was claimed that their X account had been suspended. There was speculation that the account had been suspended after singer Ken Casey got into a heated argument with fans wearing "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) apparel at one of the band's gigs.

The band swiftly corrected the issue, stating that the latest "suspension" had nothing to do with their political remarks and that their X account had been inactive for years.
Dropkick Murphy MAGA confrontation
According to a report by USA Today, the confrontation allegedly happened on March 16, in Boston's Fenway Park stadium, when Ken Casey saw a fan in the audience wearing and waving a white MAGA hat during a show. Casey, who is never afraid to voice his opinions, pointed it out right away. He ridiculed the MAGA branding in a now-viral video and mockingly referred to another hat as the "Elon Musk, true N*zi edition."
He added,
"The Chinese f****** red that they all wear, and I think it's dyeing their brains. Ya got the black-on-black Elon Musk, true N*zi edition. And then my man here is getting ready for summer with a nice f****** white white one."
The audience erupted in shouts and ovations at his comments, and many posted the footage online, igniting more debates about the band's position on Trump's presidency.
In his following remarks, Casey praised the man's "dedication," remarking:
"If you’re in a room full of people and you want to know who’s in a cult, how do you know who’s in a cult? They’ve been holding up a f****** hat the whole night to represent a president."
Casey also criticized Trump's supporters for what he sees as a cult-like devotion, drawing comparisons to the monarchy. He said,
"This is America, there’s no kings here!"
Similarly, on 10 March 2025, in Clearwater, Florida, he saw two men wearing MAGA t-shirts and a hat. He quickly made a bet with one of the fans. He bet $100 on the location where the apparel was made. He said,
“If you lose the bet, we switch shirts, OK? If you win the bet, I give you $100 and the shirt.”
After checking its tag and learning that it was manufactured in Nicaragua, he quickly poked jabs at the fan, saying,
“He’s taking the shirt off. We’re taking crime off the streets.”
And in the most recent of events on March 17, on St Patrick’s Day in an interview with MeidasTouch, he again criticized Trump, saying,
“One other thing Dropkick Murphys has always been about is a lot of songs about standing with your friends and family and the things you believe in, whether it’s politics, or just how you were raised. And Donald Trump is the exact opposite of everything we sing about.”
He continued saying,
“He’s turned on his friends. He’s turned on America’s friends and our allies. He’s a rat and a coward when you think of it that way. America shouldn’t be turning on our allies.”
Dropkick Murphys clarifies the X suspension rumors
During the heated debate, rumors circulated that the Dropkick Murphys' X account had been suspended, which many assumed was a direct result of Casey's statements.
In an interview on Tuesday with Variety, Dropkick Murphys' frontman Ken Casey clarified,
“We broke up with him first. We quit Twitter in 2022 when he was only half a N*zi,” Then someone else took our handle, pretending to be our official account, so we filed a legal complaint to put a stop to that—which is why @dropkickmurphys shows as suspended. Look, we pulled our account because we didn’t want to be part of that guy’s empire. But if we were still on there, I’m sure he would have suspended us by now.”
This isn't the first time the Dropkick Murphys commented on Trump and his administration.
