"Waking up to the Billie Eilish poster on the wall is really nice" - Don Cheadle shares his evacuation story during LA fires

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on January 20, 2025, Don Cheadle revealed that he and his family are staying at a friend's house after evacuating from the devastating L.A. fires. Cheadle got allotted the kids' room which had a Billie Eilish poster on the wall:

"So waking up to the Billie Eilish poster on the wall is really nice," he said.

Don Cheadle is among the many celebrities who had to evacuate his home with his family amidst the devastating Los Angeles fires that began on January 7. The actor revealed that he and his loved ones "had to evacuate" since the fire was too close to his residence:

"We were about five, six blocks from where it was."

Cheadle like many other L.A. residents that evacuated, hasn't moved back into his residence. However, he did go back to check on his home.

"We are still out of the house. I just went back today to make sure everything was everything. We have electricity now."

Don Cheadle reveals "bopping around in hotels" after evacuating from L.A fires

Don Cheadle while revealing his experience of evacuating with his family amidst the L.A. fires revealed that the family initially sought to take shelter in hotels:

"We went in one hotel and that one got evacuated. Then we were at another hotel and they were like, 'How long are you going to be here?' Cuz we got a lot of people. So can you please leave?' So we left."

After leaving the hotel, Don Cheadle and his family took shelter in his friend's house. As the number of displaced residents increased in the affected areas, many local hotels opened their doors for help. The Hotel Assn. of Los Angeles while speaking to the LA Times mentioned that their members have taken in thousands of L.A. residents from the path of the Palisades and Eaton fires, and offered them discounted rates.

The Hotel Assn. of Los Angeles list includes more than 250 hotels in L.A., San Diego, and Orange County. As per authorities, more than 150,000 L.A. County residents have been displaced by the fires.

After the Palisades fire started on January 7, officials have tried to contain the fire and as per local news, the fire has been contained by 65% as of January 21 afternoon. Eaton fire, the second largest fire after the Palisades fire has been contained by 89% as of January 21 afternoon. Local news reported that Southern California is expecting its first rain in months, possibly improving the situation.
