David Beckham's former assistant, Rebecca Loos, is doubling down on claims that she had a four-month-long affair with him over two decades ago.
In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia that came out on Sunday, March 30, Loos claims she "stuck with the truth" in the years since she accused the soccer legend of philandering. The former Dutch model, who worked with Beckham back in 2003, now 47, told 60 Minutes Australia:
"In my opinion, it was a very brave thing to do to go up against them. I have stuck to the truth. I've never exaggerated. I never lied about a single thing. Why? Because I'm going up against the strongest, most powerful couple in the media who have all the money in the world for the best PR, the best lawyers. And all I had on my side was the truth," she added.
David Beckham has yet to respond to these claims, though he did state in The Guardian two decades ago, referring to them as "ludicrous."
"During the past few months I have become accustomed to reading more and more ludicrous stories about my private life," David said at the time. "What appeared this morning is just one further example. The simple truth is that I am very happily married and have a wonderful wife and two very special kids," he added. "There is nothing any third party can do to change this."
Victoria and David Beckham got hitched in 1999 and have since welcomed four children together: sons Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz, as well as daughter Harper. At the time of the accusations, the pair had been married for five years and had welcomed two children. Scroll down to learn more about their relationship.
Victoria and David Beckham's relationship timeline explored: From meeting at a soccer match to celebrating their 25th anniversary
1997:
The Manchester United player and former Spice Girl met at a soccer match back in the late '90s, and they crossed paths a week later, once again, prompting them to exchange numbers. They went out on a date later that same year. Back in 2008, David Beckham told Ellen DeGeneres he knew he wanted to marry his now-beau when he saw her on TV with the rest of the Spice Girls:
"I was in a hotel room with my best friend, who was my best man at my wedding," he said. "I remember turning around — before I'd even met Victoria — and said, 'I want to marry that one.' "
1998:
The following year, the pair decided to get engaged, and as they ran in the new year, they announced that they were expecting.
1999:
That year, they welcomed their firstborn, son Brooklyn Joseph, on March 4, and a few months later, they got hitched. They had their son serve as the ring bearer, and the wedding took place at Luttrellstown Castle outside Dublin. In her 2001 autobiography Learning to Fly, Victoria reflected on the claims that Brooklyn was named after the city where he was conceived:
"It was when we were in Marbella [Spain] that we came up with the name Brooklyn. We already knew he was a boy and so I knew he could end up a footballer, so it had to be a name that was a bit blokey," the author wrote. "I had always liked the name Brooke and then we suddenly thought about Brooklyn. I'd always liked it as a place — it's very multi-cultural, very grounded. And it was only afterwards that I realized how appropriate it was because it was in New York that I found out I was pregnant."
Years later, Victoria told the world what caught her eye in her now-husband when she wrote in Vogue:
"While the other football players stand at the bar drinking with their mates, you will see David standing aside with his family. (He's not even in the first team at this stage — you are the famous one.). And he has such a cute smile. You, too, are close to your family, and you will think how similar he feels to you."
2002:
The Beckhams revealed that they had another baby on the way, and in September, they welcomed son Romeo James.
2004:
Two years later, the pair revealed they were expecting yet another child. Their third son, Cruz David, was born on February 20, 2005, in Madrid, as the pair were living there at the time due to David Beckham's four-year contract with Real Madrid.
"We've got a baby boy. His name is Cruz," David told reporters outside the hospital. "He is beautiful. He is in there with his brothers now and he is very happy."
2007:
In August, the pair posed for a series of raunchy images for a W magazine profile, where they addressed David Beckham's alleged affair:
"I'm not going to lie. It was a really rough time … David and I got through it together," Victoria told W. "No one said marriage was going to be easy. Yes, there have been bumps along the road. But the fact is we've come out of everything we've been through stronger and happier. It's even better now than when we were first married. After all these years, we can just come home and have a laugh together."
2009:
In honor of their 10th anniversary, David Beckham had his wife's name inked on his arm. He said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show:
"I had 10 roses 'round my arm, for the 10 years," he told DeGeneres. He pointed out that a love like theirs goes beyond just gifts. "We always try and do things special, you know. It's not always about buying gifts for each other, of course. We just make sure that we make time together or go for dinner together and do special things. That's important to us."
2011:
By January, Victoria and David Beckham announced they were expecting their fourth child.
"David and Victoria Beckham are delighted to confirm they are expecting their fourth child in the summer," their rep told People Magazine, adding, "Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz are very excited about the arrival of their new brother or sister."
In July of that year, they welcomed their daughter, Harper Seven.
"Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz are excited to welcome their new baby sister to the family," the Beckhams' spokesperson said at the time. The following year, he told Ellen DeGeneres about his and his wife's plans to have a large family:
"We've always wanted a big family, which was weird because when we first got together, we never even discussed how many children we wanted, but it just, it's worked out that we want a big family," he said. "You know, we love kids, so it's worked out perfect."
2013:
David Beckham decided to retire from soccer that year, allowing him to move to London.
2015:
Amid rumors that they were having troubles in their marriage, Victoria spoke to Grazia about rumors of a possible divorce:
"David and I have nothing to prove," she told the outlet. "We love each other, look out for each other and are strong as both partners and parents."
She also reflected on her husband's philanthropic nature, saying:
"My husband constantly inspires me and guides me," she shared. "He has done so much good work, I look up to him and have the utmost respect and admiration for all that he has achieved."
2017:
During an interview with BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, David Beckham revealed that he and his wife decided to renew their vows for the second time, though in a much more intimate ceremony than their first.
"It was a lot more private, about six people there in our house," he shared. "We know each other better than anybody," he noted. "People have talked about, 'Do we stay together because it's a brand?' Of course not. We stay together because we love each other, because we have four amazing children … Do you go through tough times? Of course. That's part of relationships. It's part of marriages."
2022:
In April, Victoria and David Beckham's eldest son, Brooklyn, tied the knot with Nicola Peltz, two years after they started dating. The parents were seen walking arm-in-arm down the aisle.
2024:
For her birthday in April, David Beckham threw his wife a lavish, star-studded birthday party. All her close friends were invited, including Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek-Pinault, and the Spice Girls. Shortly after, she took to Instagram to thank him for the big bash, penning:
"I still can’t believe how special you made me feel on this evening, on my birthday, this entire week, and all of our magical years together! Thank you. I love you so much!"
Victoria and David Beckham celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary just last year in July.
