Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett's first look at Colleen Hoover's Verity movie adaptation has just dropped, and fans have mixed reactions on the internet as they anticipate the highly awaited book-to-screen project.

The novel, helmed by Amazon's MGM studios, is Colleen Hoover's second film adaptation. Anne Hathaway plays Verity Crawford, who is married to Josh Hartnett’s Jeremy Crawford. The psychological thriller also stars Dakota Johnson as Lowen, a writer who happens to unravel the secrets of the Crawford family.

The photos shared online feature Hathaway in a red dress and Hartnett in a white shirt as they run through the streets laughing. Fans had divided opinions on the pictures as many pointed out that Verity was blonde in the book. However, most fans expressed their interest in the film, considering the novel was one of Hoover's most popular projects and was well received by readers.

The official synopsis of the film reads,

"Upon arrival at the lavish Crawford estate, Lowen slowly learns that things are not exactly as they seem with the discovery of a secret, unfinished manuscript that may divulge chilling admissions about the family’s past. As Lowen ingratiates herself with Jeremy and his young son Crew, she must discern if Verity’s writings are merely lurid works of fiction or an ominous warning by a deranged psychopath."

Michael Showalter, who previously worked with the actress on The Idea of You, is directing the film. A release date has not been announced yet.

What is Verity about?

The novel revolves around a struggling writer Lowen who is asked to finish Verity Crawford's novel because she is bedridden. Upon inspection, she comes across Verity's autobiographical novel which proves to be much more than fictional.

Verity consists of themes of mystery, murder, and psychological thriller as it explores the deep secrets of the Crawford family and the death of their daughters. As Lowen's feelings for Jeremy Crawford get more intense, she starts bringing Verity's secrets to light to win Jeremy over.

The author who gained quite a huge following on social media after her novels became famous on TikTok, has shelved over twenty novels that have all received their appreciation online. Still, her most famous project, to date, remains It Ends With Us, which sold over 10 million copies and spent 169 weeks on the bestseller list. Most of Hoover's books are New York Times bestsellers and she's the most popular author choice for several young people.

With that being said, fans have high hopes for Verity, as it's widely considered Colleen Hoover's best project. More details are awaited for now.
