Val Kilmer, star of Batman Forever, Top Gun, Tombstone, dies at 65

Val Kilmer has passed away. The Hollywood actor who was known for his roles in films like Heat, Batman Forever, and Top Gun died on April 1, 2025, at the age of 65 in Los Angeles, California.

His death is attributed to pneumonia, and the news was let out by his daughter Mercedes. She stated that Val was diagnosed with throat cancer back in 2014. The actor underwent treatment and managed to recover from it.

Val had to undergo Tracheotomy surgery, which affected his voice and, as a result, impacted his acting career. His last film role was in the 2022 Top Gun: Maverick, along with Tom Cruise, where he reprised his role of Admiral Tom Kazansky aka Iceman from the first film.

Val Kilmer was born on December 31, 1959, in Los Angeles. He started his acting career on stage and eventually ventured into film acting with the 1984 comedy flick Top Secret!

He then shifted gears from comedy to action and fantasy dramas like Top Gun and Willow. The year 1991 saw him portray The Doors frontman Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's biographical drama The Doors. Later in the 90s, he starred in some crime films like Heat and True Romance. His other works include Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Ghost and the Darkness, and The Snowman.

Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer back in 2014 and had to undergo surgery. This damaged his vocal cords and directly affected his speaking ability. In 2020, he wrote and published his memoir called I'm Your Huckleberry: A Memoir. The next year, a documentary film titled Val, examining his health issues, was released at the Cannes Film Festival. The film featured several hours of home recording and personal moments from Val's life. It showcased him speaking through a voice box.

On the personal front, Kilmer was married to Joanne Whalley between 1988 and 1996. The couple shared two children, including actor Jack Kilmer. After the news of his death came out, celebrities took to social media to pay their last respect.

Josh Brolin took to Instagram and wrote,

"See ya, pal. I'm going to miss you. You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker. There's not a lot left of those."
