Val Kilmer's ex-wife, Joanna Whalley, was seen embracing their daughter, Mercedes, on Wednesday morning, after his demise the night before.
As reported by Page Six, the pair was standing outside the 33-year-old’s home in West Hollywood, California. They hugged each other with bags in their hand. While Whalley was clad in a burgundy cardigan and some boots, her daughter sported a black coat and a pair of colorful Ugg boots.
As reported by TMZ, Joanne looked "heartbroken" as she hugged her "equally devastated daughter" at the time. Mercedes confirmed her father's passing to the New York Times just yesterday, revealing that he died at the age of 65. He succumbed to a bout of pneumonia.

Val Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer back in 2014, and the following year, he was hospitalized. At one point, he had to undergo a tracheotomy, and while he eventually went into remission, his acting career took a hit, and his voice was left permanently damaged.
TMZ has also reported that in the years leading up to his demise, he was left bedridden. Per the outlet, his health had taken a turn for the worse in recent years, making it no surprise for his family that he died. His kids were by his bedside in his final days.
Val Kilmer and Joanna Whalley, his first and only wife, met on the set of the movie Willow. They were married from 1988 to 1996, and during that time, they welcomed two children: daughter Mercedes, 33, and son Jack, 29. As reported by Page Six, during an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, Kilmer once divulged that he “learned he was getting a divorce while watching CNN in a hotel room.”
“It was no fun,” the actor said at the time, referring to his divorce “the second most expensive in New Mexico,” saying that it happened “only two months after the birth of their second child.”
Reflecting on what it is to be a father of two, he told Vanity Fair in 2012:
"I can’t be a responsible parent and only be there three or four months a year."

“The producer called me up and asked me if I would play this role and I said, ‘I don’t know if you’ve found anybody yet to play my daughter, but I might have someone for you. Her name is Mercedes Kilmer and perhaps you’d be interested in meeting with her,'” Val Kilmer told People. “Mercedes and the producer met and they all had a ball.”
