Universal Pictures drops a new teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action remake of How To Train Your Dragon. It is a recreation of the DreamWorks Animation's 2010 Academy Awards and Golden Globe-nominated successful animated movie of the same name. This upcoming film is also by DreamWorks Animation, with How To Train Your Dragon (2025) being their first live-action ever.

Directed by Dean DeBlois, who has previously directed the trilogy of How To Train Your Dragon animated film series, along with the immensely popular Oscar-nominated Disney's Lilo and Stitch (2002), this time comes with the 2025 live-action remake of How To Train Your Dragon.

Distributed by Universal Pictures, the teaser trailer of the upcoming How To Train Your Dragon has been released. Upon watching the teaser trailer, it gives us an insight about the world it shall be set in.

The inner conflict showcased by the central character 'Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III,' portrayed by Mason Thames, looks promising as he brings a soft vulnerability in his presence where he mentions to his father about how he cannot bring himself to kill a dragon, upon which his father responds to by saying, "But you will."

As the trailer progresses, it introduces us to the live-action version of Toothless the Dragon, and the iconic scene of Hiccup caressing the dragon is recreated. The trailer leaves us with an anticipation about Hiccup's progression in his journey and the heartfelt relationship between him and Toothless, that too in its live-action form.

The 2010 film, upon which this upcoming film is being remade, is indirectly based on the British author Cressida Cowell's 2003 novel series for children, How To Train Your Dragon.

Universal Pictures defines the synopsis of How To Train Your Dragon (2025) by stating:

"On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames; The Black Phone, For All Mankind) stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, reprising his voice role from the animated franchise), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society."

The film has a promising cast of actors, along with Gerard Butler, who is iconic for his work in 300 (2007), coming back to reprise his role of Hiccup's father, 'Stoick the Vast,' as he previously lent his voice for the animated versions of the same character. Along with Mason Thames and Gerard Butler, we have:

  • Nico Parker as Astrid Hofferson
  • Nick Frost as Gobber the Belch
  • Julian Dennison as Fishlegs Ingerman
  • Ruth Codd as Phlegma
  • Gabriel Howell as Snotlout Jorgenson
  • Bronwyn James as Ruffnut Thorston
  • Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut Thorston
  • Murray McArthur as Hoark

How To Train Your Dragon (2025) will mark its theatrical release in the United States on 13 June 2025.
