Troll 2: Everything we know about Netflix's upcoming epic monster sequel

Troll 2 will be taking the story of the first installment forward. Netflix has announced a sequel to the 2022 Norwegian film, and fans of the first one are reportedly very excited. Roar Uthaug, who directed the first film, is also helming the sequel. It will be released in the fall of 2025.

The first film was released in 2022 on Netflix and was well-received by viewers and critics. This might have prompted the streamer and the makers to come up with a sequel that has been anticipated by the viewers.

Here's the official synopsis of the film as per Netflix:

"When a dangerous new troll wakes up and goes on a rampage, our heroes Nora, political advisor Andreas Isaksen, and former army captain — now a major — Kristoffer Holm are faced with their most perilous mission yet. The clock is running out as the monster’s path of destruction widens and they must overcome impossible odds to save their homeland from falling into darkness."

What is the plot of Troll 2? Details exlored

Troll 2 follows Nora Tidemann (played by Ine Marie Wilmann) and her team including Andreas Isaksen (played by Kim Falck), and major Kristoffer Holm (Mads Pettersen), who was earlier a captain. All of them gear up to face a different kind of threat this time around. Learning from their earlier errors, the team now has a tool that is fueled with ultraviolet light.

The film is directed by Roar Uthaug and written by Espen Aukan. Kristian Strand Sinkerud and Espen Horn are backing the project under their banner of Motion Blur.


The cast of Troll 2 explored

Troll 2 consists of several familiar faces from the first film as they reprise their roles. This includes Ine Marie Wilmann who will be back as Nora Tidemann while Kim Falck returning as Andreas Isaksen. Other cast members include Mads Sjøgård Pettersen (Captain Kris), Sara Khorami, and Anne Krigsvoll. Kris has been promoted and is now a major.

Uthaug, in an official statement, spoke about the success the first film received. He said:

“Making Troll was a lifelong dream come true, and the reception our Norwegian movie has received around the world has been unbelievable."

He then shared his excitement as the sequel has been announced:

“I am beyond excited that we now get to embark on the next journey of this great adventure.”

Sinkerud and Horn, the producers of the film, gave a joint statement:

“We are thrilled to bring Troll 2 to life, again spinning on a Norwegian fairy-tale figure played, directed, and produced by Norwegians.”

Troll was a film in the monster genre from Norway and followed a bunch of people trying to prevent a troll from ancient times from causing destruction. Uthaug wrote the story being inspired by the folklore of Norway, while the screenplay was written by Espen Aukan. The shooting took place between August and November 2021. Upon its release on Netflix on December 1, 2022, the film received mostly positive response and strong viewership.

Netflix has now given a go to its sequel, titled Troll 2, which will take the story forward. It will have all the major characters from the previous film but with a fresh story and new challenges. The makers are yet to announce a release date, but it will be around fall of 2025.
