Tori Spelling expressed her shock at finding out that her longtime friend and former co-star, Shannen Doherty, who died in 2024, was not included in the 2025 Oscars' "In Memoriam" segment. She further recalled how her father, Aaron Spelling, and actor Luke Perry were also excluded from the respective year's list. She shared this on the special tribute episode of Doherty's Let's Be Clear Podcast on March 31, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Shannen Doherty, known for shows like Little House on the Prairie, Our House, and more, passed away in 2024 after her fight with breast cancer.
On March 31, 2025, while remembering her late friend in a tribute episode of Doherty's Let's Be Clear, Tori Spelling shared that she was shocked as she realized that her friend was not included in the "In Memoriam" segment at the Oscars held on March 2, 2025. She further stated that though she is "iconically known for her TV roles," her career "thrived" on the big screen.
I'm sure all of you definitely saw — as I saw, as the world saw — that it was heartbreaking that Shannen was left out of the 'In Memoriam' segment at the Academy Awards...

According to People, Spelling acknowledges that there are too many people to mention in the segment, but she felt disappointed that her longtime friends were not included. She further recalled the times her father, Aaron Spelling, who died in 2006, and their co-star from 90210, Luke Perry, who passed away in 2019, were also left out of the list in 2007 and 2020, respectively. She had previously called out the Oscars for their exclusion in 2020. Tori Spelling said,
The year my dad passed, I remember he was left out of it...And then, ironically, the year that Luke Perry passed, he was left out of it
According to Entertainment Weekly, including Doherty, a lot of others were also excluded from the "In Memoriam" presented at the Oscars, but they were all included in the longer version of "In Memoriam" published on the website.
Tori Spelling and Shannen Doherty have been friends for a long time.
Tori Spelling and Shannen Doherty met each other for the first time when they were filming for Beverly Hills, 90210, and have reportedly been friends for a long time. Though they have been very close friends, the two did have a "fallout" that "weakened" their bond. The duo have even once discussed their fallout when they reunited in an episode of Doherty's podcast, Let's Be Clear.

According to People Magazine, though they don't know the exact reason, the duo recalled drifting apart after a Mexico trip with their boyfriends at the time and believed that the reason was Spelling's boyfriend, who was described as "abusive" and an "addict." Doherty also recalled asking Spelling to "end it with him," but Spelling didn't, at the time.
