Tom Hardy is back for his first film of the year for Gareth Evans’ highly anticipated action-thriller Havoc. As Netflix unveiled the first trailer for the film, it also got its release date and a sneak peek into what's to come.
Gareth, who has previously worked on the Raid series and is known for his action sequences and for being a phenomenal action choreographer, described the film at a Netflix event, saying,
"Havoc is my love letter to the heroic bloodshed genre; the films that came out of Hong Kong in the '80s and '90s."
He then adds,
"But it's also a hard boiled, noir-ish cop thriller set over two nights before Christmas. But it's not really a Christmas movie, as you would expect from me! It's about Tom Hardy, who plays Walker, who's a sort of corrupt cop and dabbles in some sh*t he shouldn't do."
The film stars Hardy as Detective Walker, who is up against the criminal underworld as the latter fills the city with chaos. The trailer sees him indulge in some intense action. Fans can expect the film to have its fair share of violence and gore.
The synopsis of the film reads,
"In the aftermath of a drug deal gone wrong, Walker finds himself with a number of factions on his tail; a vengeful crime syndicate, a crooked politician, as well as his fellow cops."
It further continues,
"When attempting to rescue the politician’s estranged son, whose involvement in the drug deal starts to unravel a deep web of corruption and conspiracy, he is forced to confront the demons of his past."
More details on Havoc

Apart from Brady, the film also stars Jessie Mei Li, Luis Guzmán, Michelle Waterson, Sunny Pang, Jim Caesar, Timothy Olyphant, Forest Whitaker, Justin Cornwell, Quelin Sepulveda, Xelia Mendes-Jones and Yeo Yann Yann.
Principal photography for Havoc started on July 8, 2021, in Wales, even though the film is set entirely in the U.S.
This happens to be Gareth's second collaboration with the streaming giant, who has previously made the Dan Stevens, Michael Sheen, and Lucy Boynton starrer horror-thriller film Apostle. Known for his style of fierce and captivating action, Havoc can very well be expected to be a worthwhile watch.
The film was announced in 2021 and took some time to finalize as the creators tried to ensure Hardy was properly onboard. The actor is also involved in some impromptu action in the film, as Jessie revealed. All in all, Havoc has all the ingredients to make for our next perfect action adventure!
Havoc is all set to release on 25 April 2025 on Netflix.
